Had an absolute blast it’s hard to put into words! The whole fam are so welcoming from the moment I got there are really got to build some great bonds with everyone and my fellow volunteers! The work is super easy to get a hang of and very manageable. Plenty of time for chilling in the bell tower or hammock along with some crazy adventures that made me feel like I got the full cape Breton experience rain or shine!
Honestly Bricin, Patricia, Billie, Cash Money and Peter were such a great family to spend time with I even shed a few tears on the bus to the airport. 🩷🩷🩷 Thanks guys :)))

I spent 2 months at the hostel and I cannot say a bad thing about it. If I could stay longer I would have. Bricin, Patricia and Pete have a beautiful family and made me feel nothing but welcome. The amount of work is very manageable and once the work is finished It would take us all out for adventures. It's a very unique place full of very unique people and if you are looking for a change in environment or a different experience I would look no further than the Highland Hostel. They are nothing but accepting and I'm very grateful to have had the opportunity

This was such an amazing experience! The family went out of their way to make me feel welcome and part of their family. I'm so grateful that I got to have this experience, I truly enjoyed my time there! Their kids are really really amazing and that just shows how great their parents and granddad are! Such a great family! The work we had to do was manageable, tbh it didn't feel like work because the host made sure we experienced tons of fun stuff in the afternoon. If my schedule had allowed it I would have loved to extend my stay. Imagine going there for 2 months instead of only 1?!?!

I spent two months at the hostel, and i definitely recommend it. From the first day they made me feel welcome; i truly felt like part of the family. This opportunity in Cape Breton, is perfect to enjoy nature, go on adventures, discover amazing spots and share time with a wonderful family and a great community. The family always care about ur well-being. They recommend and take u to nearby places to explore, so you'll genuinely enjoy ur time here. They're clear about your duties and schedule, and they're flexibility. The work never feels like work. You'll love them, and miss them when u leave

My four weeks at this hostel were truly unforgettable. From the very first day, I was welcomed with so much warmth and love by a wonderful and supportive family who made me feel completely at home. The volunteer experience felt meaningful and natural, sharing homemade meals and everyday moments in such a beautiful hiking area made it even more special. The teenagers were kind, respectful, and an absolute joy to be around.
This experience gave me much more than a place to stay : I found a family in Cape Breton, and I truly hope to come back very soon.

If you are thinking about stepping into the world of volunteering in the Great Canadian wilderness, then you will go no better than the hostel. I had an amazing time during my stay and they looked after me so well and I met some amazing people. I see Bricin, Patricia, cash and Billie as part of my extended family and I am so grateful that they gave me the opportunity to stay and volunteer. My time here was interesting! I felt super welcomed and safe as soon as I arrived. The hosts do an excellent job of running the hostel and the area is absolutely beautiful. Just be aware that the hostel is extremely remote and you will be entirely dependent on Bryson to go anywhere. Make sure you are feeling 100% and be very open minded.
