Volunteering at the horse farm for the last two months was truly one of the most amazing and authentic experience ever. If you work together and find your own rhythm the work is easy. The nature is breathtaking and I would definitely recommend spending as much time outside as possible. All of Mariana's and Pedro's animals have such a nice and clever character. It was truly a delight to take care of the farm going on rides. Pedro and Mariana are welcoming, hardworking and thoughtful. I've not only gained extra leg muscles but also a home away from home. You won't regret applying!!

Mariana and Pedro are such genuine and kind people. Despite being extremely busy they do everything to make sure the volunteers are comfortable which I really appreciated. The tasks are not difficult and the schedule is very clear and understandable. You will be left with lots of free time to explore the beautiful surrounding nature which is a big bonus. Obviously the best part was the farm it's lovely to see that they are so well taken care of :) Overall it was an amazing experience, I loved my stay here and I would 100% recommend 🥰

I loved my whole stay here, Marianna and Pedro made me feel welcome from the start, explained everything regarding the tasks and my stay and I could ask if something wasn't clear. I genuinely enjoyed the tasks and spending time with the farm, in nature, exploring etc. We had plenty of free time even on working days to go and see the surroundings, swim in the waterfalls… It is so obvious that the farm are loved, well taken care of and genuinely appreciated. The best part? Waking up and the farm greeting you once you step out of the caravan. Would recommend this experience 10/10🩷

This was my first ever volunteering experience and I couldn't imagine it being any more perfect. I felt extremely welcomed and cared for. Marianna and Pedro are the best people you'll ever meet and they will treat you like family. Nothing could have prepared me for how much I'm going to miss the stables and working there. Everything is done perfectly starting with the assigned tasks and working hours and ending with communication. You can truly feel the passion and love these people have for what they do. All the animals are lovely and very well taken care of. I couldn't have wished for more❤️

I stayed with Mariana and Pedro for three weeks and really enjoyed my time there. The work is simple and well communicated, and the farm dogs are adorable. They usually pair two volunteers together, so that you are not alone. You should be open-minded and be fine with sharing a small space together. Since the farm is quite remote and Mariana and Pedro are busy most of the time you sadly do not get the chance to really talk with them so you need to be able to entertain yourself. If you enjoy a quiet, simple lifestyle, this is a great place to stay.

Mariana and Pedro are such kind and genuine people, and I loved learning from their connection with nature and their animals. I really enjoyed my time at the farm. The work was much easier than described on Worldpackers, mostly cleaning a few boxes and occasional tasks. The animals were lovely, and the surrounding nature was beautiful. Pedro and Mariana were super lovely, though there was sometimes tension that made it hard to approach them. They provided ingredients to cook with, plus delicious leftovers now and then. Overall, I'd highly recommend this experience.

Castro Laboreiro is a perfect place to volunteer at if you want to really immerse yourself in the nature of Northern Portugal and a lifestyle of taking care of the farm. All the farm (and dogs) there are incredibly sweet and caring for them feels fulfilling every day. The place is rather remote and you'll have quite a bit of downtime so it's important to have with you something to do, like a book to read. Overall, this experience is perfect for you if you want to get away from the rush and noise of everyday life and to connect with nature and animals!

This Experience was really nice. This was my first volunteer experience and I am glad that it was here. Pedro and Mariana are so nice and we had really good conversations. You really see that they care so much about the horses, the volunteers and their business in general. It was really fun especially because you have another volunteer to work with and I was really lucky with Olga.
The work was not too much and actually fun.
Although I have to say that it is not for you when you want to meet many people. You should come for nature, animals and a quiet, peaceful time! 🫶🏻
