Program Details
Volunteers at Double Attitude Orchard join us for a minimum of 2 weeks in exchange for accommodation, all meals, and a rich hands-on experience in organic farming. In return, we ask for approximately 30 hours of genuine, engaged work per week across 5 days, leaving you 2 full days off to explore, rest, and enjoy the property.
This is a working family orchard, not a hostel. You'll be living and eating with us, and we ask that volunteers come with a positive attitude, respect for the land, and openness to learning. In return, we commit to making your stay as rewarding, comfortable, and memorable as possible.
We welcome solo travelers, couples, and pairs of friends. Language-wise, intermediate English or beginner French is enough — we're used to communicating across cultures and always make it work.
Activities & Shift
Typical daily schedule:
Work shifts run roughly from 9am, with afternoons free.
Tasks vary by season and may include:
Spring (April–May): Tree planting, pruning, garden preparation, soil work, maple syrup making.
Summer (June–July): Orchard maintenance, weeding, forest trail upkeep, general property repairs and building tasks
Fall (August–November): Apple harvesting, making apple products.
Year-round: General farm maintenance, light building and repair work, firewood
No prior farming experience is needed — we train you on everything. Tasks are outdoors and indoors.
Rules
The basics
We keep things simple because we believe in mutual respect.
Treat the orchard, the house, and the family with care
Show up on time for your shift — the trees don't wait, but we get that mornings happen
Tell us early if you're sick or need a day off — communication makes everything easier
Keep your space and shared areas clean
Food & kitchen:
We provide all your meals. If you cook for yourself, just clean up after. And let us know about any dietary restrictions before you arrive so Beatrice can plan ahead.
Life on the farm:
We're a family with young kids, so we ask for calm evenings. A drink or two is fine, just not if it affects your work the next day. Smokers, please step away from the house and orchard.
Leaving:
Plans change — just give us 5 days' notice if you need to leave early, and leave your space the way you found it.
This isn't the spot for a low-key city-style stay. But if you love the outdoors, don't mind real work, and want to feel genuinely useful — you'll fit right in.
