Program Details
We are consistently in search of hardworking, experienced volunteers, or with a deep desire to learn, to lead hikes throughout the highlands of Guatemala. All volunteers are provided free accommodation, free communal meals, and a fun, supportive work environment. All on-trek costs are covered for guides.
We are looking for proactive, socially conscious adventurers ready to commit for a minimum of 3 months. By keeping this project running, you directly change lives while tackling some of the most epic hikes in Central America.
Activities & Shift
Adventure Guiding: Leading single and multi-day treks (like our iconic 3-day Xela to Lake Atitlán hike or scaling the highest peak of Central America, Volcán Tajumulco). You will handle group safety, trail cooking, and sharing local culture.
Prep Days & Logistics: Working as a team to pack heavy gear, organize food rations, and maintain hiking equipment.
Office & Community Admin: Responding to traveler inquiries, managing registrations, and assisting with local community projects.
Rules
To maintain a safe environment on high-altitude volcanoes and a supportive community in our shared volunteer house, we hold our team to high standards:
Commitment: A strict 3-month minimum stay is required due to the extensive safety, route, and first-aid training we provide.Physical Fitness: You must be physically capable of hiking long distances at high altitudes while carrying a heavy backpack.
Responsibility: Safety on the trail is our absolute priority.
Community Living: Volunteers live together in a shared house. You are expected to respect quiet hours, contribute equally to house chores, and maintain a clean, welcoming environment.
Language: Fluent English is required to guide international clients. Basic spanish is highly encouraged for connecting with the local communities and homestays we support.
*Please disregard the 30 days minimum stay requirement, as the Worldpackers website does not allow to set more days than that.
