In this role you will be a key part of offering nutritious and balanced meals to our community. You will cook vegetarian dishes for daily meals and dinners for about 20–30 people, and at special events it can reach 80 people with the help of other volunteers, following the menu and the provided recipes. We value experience in cooking, knowledge of hygiene and food safety standards, and the ability to work with order and care in a community setting.
We offer you accommodation in a shared room, three daily meals, and the possibility to participate in meditation classes. By being part of our Kadampa Buddhist community, you will be able to live with and learn from practitioners with many years of experience, in addition to participating in classes, chanted prayers and retreats held at the center, living a deep learning and personal growth experience.
For your stay, you should bring a sleeping bag or top sheet, a towel, and personal care items. We provide you with a bottom sheet and pillowcase.
Volunteering in the kitchen is not only about preparing food: it is an opportunity to connect with nature, meditation and a community committed to inner peace and harmony, while offering your work for the well-being of all visitors. ❤️
Activities & Shift
At Kadampa La Sierra Meditation Centre, every dish prepared in the kitchen reaches the table of people who are here to connect with the Buddha's teachings and find inner peace. Cooking with care and hygiene, following our vegetarian recipes, is a concrete way to contribute to the well-being of the whole community that visits the center.
Your tasks will include preparing breakfasts, vegetarian lunches and dinners following the provided recipes, organizing and cleaning the workspace, monitoring cooking times, maintaining kitchen hygiene, and collaborating on general tasks in the area as needed. This role requires prior experience, good organization, and a love of cooking for groups.
We work 5 days a week with 2 days off. The shift is 6 hours daily, distributed as follows:
08:00 – 10:00: Breakfast
10:00 – 14:00: Tasks, with a 15-minute break
14:00 – 15:00: Lunch
15:00 – 17:00: Continuation of tasks
18:00 onwards: Dinner
This schedule can be adapted according to the center's needs and ongoing retreats; what remains fixed is the 6 hours daily, although the distribution and days off may be adjusted according to the center's planning.
We are looking for someone with flexibility, a service attitude, and a commitment to hygiene, since the kitchen is key to offering well-being, harmony and care to all who visit the center.
