Volunteering at Guesthouse Kyoto Inn was one of the highlights of my time in Japan. I originally planned to stay for two months, but I extended my stay for another two because everyone made me feel so welcome. A special thank you to all the amazing staff and volunteers. Especially Essam for always being welcoming, supportive, and fun, Naoko and Mika for your kindness and caring hearts, and Echo for being such a genuine, warm-hearted, and positive person. I highly recommend volunteering here, you’ll meet wonderful people and make unforgettable memories. Thank you for an incredible four months!

Nina was an irreplaceable asset to our team—responsible, professional, efficient, and genuinely kind. She has an amazing intuition; she constantly observes if guests or staff need help and always steps in at the right moment. Her strong self-discipline and positive traits motivated everyone to be better, elevating our whole team's efficiency. She also set a wonderful example for guests to follow house rules, creating a great environment. Guest House Kyoto Inn would welcome her back anytime!

Thank you to the whole team!! From the beginning everybody was really welcoming and helpful, all the tasks were straightforward and could be completed within the hour. You do have to stay till the end of the shift even if the tasks are completed, but for me it was no problem. The hostel is conveniently located next to a train station and is also a 20 min walk away from the main Kyoto station, making it easy for days out. Overall I really appreciated my time here! Thank you everyone!

Melissa was great to have with us. She is hardworking, reliable, and always ready to help when something needed to be done. We could always count on her to follow through, which made a big difference for the whole team. On a personal level, she is friendly, calm, and easy to get along with. She fit in well with everyone and helped create a nice, relaxed atmosphere. We truly appreciated having her with us and would gladly recommend her to any future hosts.

I had a really great experience during my stay in Kyoto. I truly enjoyed my time there. Everything is explained clearly and you can always ask questions if needed. The place is clean and well organized, which I really appreciate. What made this experience special where the people if you come before October you will have the chance to work with Echo, she is one of the kindest and warmest people I've met. She helped me a lot and always made me feel comfortable (Thank you girl!). Naoko san was also very kind and supportive. Essam, is very easy-going and creates a relaxed atmosphere. Thank you!

This small hostel is truly a place where I felt at home! It takes no time for you get used to the space and all the working/volunteering staff is super nice, like a little family. The location is a bit far from the centre (1h walk), but the hostel offers bikes for volunteers, so you can cycle around! Regarding the work itself - the workload is no more than 2 hours as the place is small, but we are required to work the full 4 hours, so there is no rush to get things done. Days off can be negotiated if you have special requests, check your schedule as your leaving day might be marked as day off

The work itself was manageable, but communication and fairness were poor. Volunteers were expected to stay until 3 PM even when main tasks were finished, often receiving random extra work, while paid staff could leave earlier. After I told the host I would leave on Monday, I was expected to check out first and still return to work. When I questioned this, I received a message Saturday evening telling me to leave within two hours. My arrival day was counted as a day off, and after working 5 days in a row this would also have removed my only real day off. Unstable and disrespectful environment.

The hours were respected, I was there during slow season so there wasn't much work and we almost always finished early and had to wait until the it was time sitting haha. Besides that all the volunteers made me feel comfortable and I had fun. Thank you so much!

The experience at the guest house Kioto Inn was nice! Essam is a really good and welcoming host and Naoko-san is super kind and will teach you everything. About the working hours and days off, it's exactly as what is mentioned in the post, you have to volunteer 4 full hours and you have 2 days off per week. I would recommend doing a volunteering here, the hostel is an convenient location and the staff make you feel comfortable all the time, it's like a big family.

This was one of the best worldpackers experiences! I truly loved it. The owner is amazing, other staff as well. You can practise Japanese but everyone speaks English here too. I like the location, the work is easy and the hours are respected. I definitely recommend and I would come back myself.

Had a lovely stay at GHKI. The staff was so friendly and funny, I really enjoyed talking and working with them. I did both cleaning and reception hours, so got to see different aspects of the job, which I really enjoyed. The Guesthouse is basically 20min away from main attractions/areas by electric bike ⚡and the city has plenty of biking roads. I mainly used this means of transport which I loved 😍. Thanks a lot to Essam, Mika and Naoko for making my stay a comfortable one. Hope to come back and say hello one day! Gracias 😊 またね!

When I set foot in the hostel the first time I didn't know what to expect. A building hidden in a in a lesser known corner of the city, perhaps I was afraid. But from the first day the staff turned out to be exceptional not only from a professional point of view but above all from a human point of view. From the first day they helped me to integrate and did everything possible to match my hours with those of the school I attend. I found some very open people mentally with whom it was a pleasure to collaborate. All working conditions established before arriving have been met. ESSAM IS AMAZING!
