Program Details
In this role you will be an essential part of keeping our center in good condition, welcoming and harmonious. Your tasks will include performing general repairs, painting, plumbing, electrical work, sealing, installing shelves, and fixing taps or small leaks. We have a spacious workshop with machinery and tools to carry out the work comfortably.
We offer you accommodation in a shared room, three meals a day, and the possibility to participate in meditation classes. By being part of our Kadampa Buddhist community, you will be able to live with and learn from practitioners with many years of experience, in addition to participating in classes, sung prayers, and meditation retreats held at the center, living a deep learning and personal growth journey.
For your stay, you should bring a sleeping bag or top sheet, a towel and personal grooming items. We provide you with a bottom sheet and a pillowcase.
Volunteering in maintenance not only involves caring for the facilities: it is an opportunity to connect with nature, meditation and a community committed to inner peace and harmony, while you contribute your technical experience to the well-being of all visitors.
Activities & Shift
At Kadampa La Sierra Meditation Center we don’t do maintenance like anywhere else: here, every repair, every painted wall, and every repaired piece of furniture sustains a Dharma space where many people come to connect with the teachings and find inner peace. With the right intention, your work stops being a simple task and becomes a form of generosity that benefits everyone who passes through here.
We are looking for a person with general maintenance experience to support painting tasks, small electrical or masonry repairs, sanding, sealing, furniture repair, woodwork and moving furniture according to the center's needs. It is a practical role that requires good physical condition and willingness for manual work.
We work 5 days a week with 2 days off. The shift is 6 hours per day, distributed as follows:
• 08:00 – 10:00: Breakfast
• 10:00 – 14:00: Tasks, with a 15-minute break
• 14:00 – 15:00: Lunch
• 15:00 – 17:00: Continuation of tasks
• 18:00 onwards: Dinner
This schedule can be adjusted according to the center's needs and ongoing retreats; what always remains is the 6 hours per day, although the distribution and rest days may be adjusted.
We are looking for someone flexible, with a service-minded attitude and a liking for hands-on work. If you are motivated by the idea that your daily effort contributes to a safe, functional, and harmonious environment for those seeking here a space of calm, this volunteering opportunity is for you.
