Thrilling Volunteer Journey at Carcavelos in Our Beach Hostel

The hostel was a blast! The host, Lucas, was kind and welcoming upon arrival. Similarly, the environment of the hostel is joyful, friendly and upbeat. There's always something to do or someone to chat with. I had a very pleasant experience with the guests as well. We mostly communicated in Spanish or broken English, but they were truly wonderful housemates. The work itself was pretty straightforward; I mostly did dishes, swept, mopped and other general household chores like cleaning bathrooms. But, the hours went by quickly and the time off made it all worth it.

I loved every second of my time here. The people in this house are so kind and I made more memories than you could imagine. You have so much free time and the house is close to the beach, train stations, and a cute park. And you know, the kitchen is usually dirty and the shower doesn't always have hot water. But if you can get past not living lavishly, it is 100% worth it to volunteer here. This place will always hold a spot in my heart:)

My time at Carcavelos was very nice, I stayed for 2 weeks and had lots of time off, to explore Lisbon and other cities close by. Lucas was a caring host and made me feel welcome, since the hostel is very new maybe a few rules need to be better enforced like for the guests to clean there own dishes, but everything else was nice :)

The host is outgoing and friendly. The house is a good location right by a train station to lisboa and cascais and also near the beach. There are several 8 ft foamie surfboards and a smaller board as well. There are wetsuits. Theres a tv and equipped kitchen for making food. I had a great time here!

The hostel ist alot, in both good and bad ways. i made friends for life and had the most fun nights BUT you have to put up with alot. its dirty, chaotic, its normal that there is no hot water and some guests are elderly and really really creepy (wanted to pay money to see our boobs etc.) . The host doesnt really care if you try to tell him about it. he also didnt care when we shared with him that we might have bedbugs and said its our fault for not being clean enough (??). In conclusion, LOVE the people and the work was really fair but you have to be prepared for everything!

I spent 2 weeks volunteering in the hostel. Shifts are easy and I had a lot of free time to explore Lisbon, nearby towns or go to the beach. I met nice people with who I got along well. However, many things are chaotic, there are no rules like quiet hours at night. Most guests don't clean after themself so there's a mess everywhere, especially in the kitchen with loads of dirty dishes. Inside the building it's very humid and cold. You get lucky when there's hot water in the shower.

The atmosphere in the Hostel is very nice and familiar, we felt welcome since the first day. There are many group activities like barbecue and parties so there is a nice community in the hostel. The hosts were very inclusive and tried to make the most of our stay. In addition the host was very flexible and relaxed with our check-in and check-out dates. However, the tasks were a little bit different than we expected. We just had to clean the common areas but did not have to do the other stated tasks. In addition there is only one bike and during our stay there weren't any surfboards.
