I am super grateful for this experience. I spent an amazing time in the nature, helped in the garden, making chocolates and paçoca power and with ordinary house tasks. João is a very good father and super nice and welcoming person!
I would recommend this experience to anyone who wants to peacefully reconnect with nature for a while, learn about Brazilian fruits and plants and see beautiful sea and waterfalls. GRATIDÃO :)

First of all João is an amazing person. During my short stay I learned a lot from him about life, plants and construction. It's a pleasure to spend time with him and talk about anything and everything. His home in Praia do Estaleiro is in my opinion a perfect place for those who want to experience remote life in a beautiful jungle, while still having a comfy bed, electricity, water and (fast!) WiFi and bigger town in close proximity. There are super friendly 2 cats and a dog. I wish I brought more repellent though and came in a better season. Nonetheless it was a wonderful experience.

The stay at João's house was really interesting and meaningful, but also relaxing. I stayed for a week and helped out with tasks in the house, some in the garden and we went to the market together. He has a really big piece of land with beautiful jungle nature, and it's next to the beach!! The house (which he build) is made out of natural materials and made me think of a tree house, super cool. I learned about plants and sustainability, and it was a week to take good care of my body and health. I had a lot of free time to go chill on the beach or explore the nature.

Amazing experience volunteering with João for 10 days! João has a lot of knowledge about permaculture, agriculture, and DIY (he basically built his own house). I learned a lot about the native plants of the Mata Atlântica, the fruits and roots that he grows, and how to plant, harvest, and consume them. The food was amazing – healthy and varied! I also learned a lot about the local communities that live in Ubatuba. I helped out with a variety of tasks, and João was always very flexible about what I could do to help. Take good hiking/working boots, mosquito repellent, jeans, and long sleeves.

100% recommended for anyone who wants to connect with nature; it's a very nice and cozy space near the beach. João is a very attentive and calm host with whom you can talk about very interesting topics and who enjoys sharing his knowledge about cacao and healthy eating. Also a good yoga teacher. His kids are very funny. Always grateful!

My volunteering experience was very enriching and full of lessons. During this period, I had greater contact with nature and learned about sustainability in practice; I also tended the garden, planted yam, and had experiences that made me value caring for the environment even more.
Moreover, I was warmly welcomed by the host from day one; he was very receptive, flexible and always kept a light and positive energy, which made all the difference in my experience.
It was a volunteering that provided me with many new things. It was perfect.

Volunteering at the site—the project—was very cool! If you’re looking for an immersion in nature, near the beach, it’s the right place! João is a friendly guy, with a lot of knowledge to share... and he does so whenever he can. I learned about plants, fruits, and I was able to acquire some knowledge about the work (yoga too, hehe). The schedules and demands are flexible, and he cares a lot about giving the opportunity to get to know the surroundings better; I found that sensational on his part. The lodging is simple and pleasant, worthy of a place in harmony with nature!

There were weeks of a lot of learning and connection with nature.
The space where João lives looks like a treehouse; it's almost enchanting, as in children's books.
He knows quite a bit about the territory; the site is a living school, always attentive to the little animals that surrounded us.
I learned about cacao, PANCs, and organizing beds for planting; we planted corn and cassava.
Besides the several new recipes unlocked that I will add to my diet.
I experienced the Caiçara way of life through João's children, who are very precious.
The yoga practices added even more to the experience.

The cabin is beautiful, it just needs care and affection. João is very empathetic, kind, and has a lot to share from his experiences, medicinal wisdom, and knowledge of the forest. In addition to being a great cook. The children are sensitive and very well integrated into life in the forest, and it warms the heart the way João takes care of the family. There are very cute and adorable pets. And finally, there is magic in the forest, for eyes and ears that are awake.

João is a very flexible person, he took me to see a waterfall, to paddle a Hawaiian canoe with friends, we made chocolate with the cacao he grows.
The house is in the middle of the countryside, very rustic, but that was positive for me, very quiet.
The kids are also very easygoing.
The house is about 1 hour from the city of Ubatuba by public transport, the tasks were easy, planting, cleaning the house, raking leaves.
João has dietary habits based on vegetarianism, and stepping a bit out of my routine, such as not drinking coffee, etc., I enjoyed stepping out of my routine and the experience.
Thanks, João!
