Volunteered there for 2 weeks and had a wonderful experience. The work is hard but rewarding. You start in the morning by preparing diets, feeding animals then cleaning enclosures. In the afternoon, it's more flexible, you can either create games for animals or engage in other activities! Fanny is always available if you have any problems. On the weekend, I recommend going to Baños and do some paragliding :)

ZooTarqui was an unforgettable experience! Fanny was a wonderfully diligent host and the staff were so friendly! It was incredible getting to work with all the animals. It's hard work but very rewarding. I miss it so terribly and I only just left. If you choose to do this trip definitely have at least a little Spanish in your pocket as most of the staff do not speak any English. Also bring long hiking pants not shorts since you will often be covered in mud. If you like working hard, getting your hands dirty and making animals happy this is definitely the trip for you!

I had the most amazing time at the shelter! The staff is really kind and patient and it has been a true pleasure getting to know them and work with them. The zoo is beautiful and the animals are well taken care of. After getting to know the tasks more, they trusted me with more responsibility, where I really felt like I was part of the team. The only problem is that you will wish to stay here longer😅❤️

Had a great time at the shelter, the staff and the owners over there were very nice and understanding if you couldn't speak Spanish that great. Loved volunteering over there, got close with the animals and also learned important information in the husbandry practices and nutrition they require. Wish I could've stayed longer, definitely would recommend this experience to someone else.

I can't recommend this experience enough! Fanny was so helpful on my journey and she and everyone else at the zoo were really welcoming and spoke to me in English while also helping me practice my Spanish. The town has lots to do and all the volunteers were lovely and helped me to meet more locals and immerse myself more. It was such an incredible experience and I really can't fault it. There is a brilliant range of animals which are very well cared for and live in nice big enclosures. I am so grateful to have been to such an incredible place and I really hope i can come again soon :)

I only stayed for one week but it was a really great time. Everyone is very nice and it’s cool to be so close to all the wild animals, I really enjoyed looking after the baby monkey. I would reccomend you go to las lajas waterfall it was very beautiful.

This was my first volunteer program and i thought it was perfect. Fanny was so sweet and it was fun taking care of the animals. Really cool to see the babymonkey have progress as you're taking care and training her :)

I would recommend volunteering at the shelter. Most of the work is preparing food and feeding cool animals. You get your own room, delicious meals, and staff/other volunteers are very friendly.
