Incredible experience in osaka! You run a cute cafe&hostel 2-3 days a week and you have the other days to go out & explore! They have 8-10 volunteers and the tasks are really easy like taking out trash, changing towels, cleaning showers, serving lattes etc. Other volunteers are super cute and we also have super cute regulars too! There is a shared kitchen and only rice and cutleries are provided, so please choose if you can spare budget for food. Also I wouldn't recommend for couples since the beds are a bit small! Leaving the hostel in Tsuruhashi felt like leaving family behind. It was hands down the best summer of my entire life! The cafe has the coziest, warmest vibe where you can just sit, chat, and completely lose track of time. It naturally brings travelers and locals together, making everyone feel like close friends within minutes. Akari-san is genuinely one of the sweetest, most caring hosts imaginable. She looks out for you like family and makes sure you are having the absolute best time.

The hostel is really nice hostel for volunteering. The hostel work was simple and easy, and everyone was willing to help each other. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, with a kitchen for cooking and laundry services, all very convenient. There was even a rooftop balcony with a beautiful view. Really recommend to be volunteer in here.

I had an amazing experience volunteering at Hippo.The hostel is located in a quiet neighborhood in Osaka,with a subway station practically next door ,making it very easy to get around.The tasks are well organized and easy to complete,and the work shifts are well structured.On top of that,volunteers have plenty of free time to explore Osaka and visit nearby cities.I also made great friends with the others volunteers,which made the experience even more special.Thank you so much Akari,for this opportunity.I hope I can come back and volunteer at Hippo again someday,I highly recommend.

Laid back hostel and the owner did a good job picking volunteers. Everyone got along well, the work isn't too difficult. Great way to meet other travelers and locals. Good location close to train station in the middle of Korea Town, not far from the hot spots in Osaka.

My experience in the hostel was overall very good! Although not always physically present Akari is a great and attentive host, it is very easy to communicate with her and she is understanding. The workload in the hostel is easy and they were very flexible with the schedule, giving me enough time to explore the Kansai region. The energy with the other volunteers was in general good and most people do their job, and if mistakes were made everyone was mature enough to recognise it in a respectful way. I recommend the hostel as a place to volunteer and it was an amazing first experience!
