My volunteering experience at SALC was very good. The host, Esteban, is fair, professional, and very understanding. The work at the school was straightforward, and the agreed schedule was respected.

Although the neighborhood is far from the main tourist attractions, it has plenty of good supermarkets nearby, which made me very happy!

Ah, the food they prepare for the volunteers is absolutely delicious and healthy. Always healthy.

One of the best volunteering experiences i've had, the quality of education is excellent, embracing creativity and inclusion, esteban and tamy are genuinely caring people with strong values who truly want to make a difference, the students are lovely and genuinely eager to learn, which makes the experience even more rewarding, the flat has excellent facilities, and the daily food is great too, i'd highly recommend this position to anyone looking for a meaningful and enriching experience, thanks!

SALC Calderón was an amazing experience, and I'm so incredibly glad to have been a part of the team for the 3+ weeks I stayed. Esteban and his mom, Tammy, were extremely accommodating and ensured I and the other volunteers always had everything we needed. The students were incredibly interactive and welcoming, too. A key memory was waking to to finding 3 new kittens living in the backyard with us during my stay!

I spent two weeks volunteering here. It was incredible experience! The accommodation was spacious and clean, it was thoroughly cleaned once a week, making it very comfortable. Since it's an apartment right across the street from the academy, privacy is well guaranteed.

Calderon is not a touristy downtown area, but a neighborhood where you can experience the authentic daily life of Ecuadorian locals. It's a bit far from the city center, but I managed to explore Quito during my free time after morning shifts or during my two consecutive day off per week

I had a great experience with this volunteering! I loved working in the school and talking to the students. Every weekday there is a freshly prepared meal and you'll eat it together with the very kind family. The private room and routine helped me to recharge my batteries which were low from all the travelling. The only downside for me was the area. It is very authentic but I didn't feel very comfortable walking in the streets. Within 30 minutes there is lots to do though. You can just take an Uber to get there:)

Esteban and Tamara were fabulous hosts. They were engaging and very friendly. The accomodation was a 1 min walk to the school and the facilities were outstanding. It was a townhouse so had everything you needed.
The Language School is an hour in an Uber to Quito's Historic Centre so just be aware of this, you are not in the midst of tourist activities but you can definitely use your weekends to get away.
The work I did was generating conversation with students of all ages in groups of up to 5 for 30 minutes at a time. It is quite full on. I learned lots about Ecuador during my time.

My experience volunteering at SALC Quito was excellent. Esteban and his mum, Tamara, made a real effort to connect with us. The accommodation was comfortable — a private flat close to the school with a kitchen and lounge, which made day‑to‑day life super convenient.

Giving students opportunities to practice speaking was a highlight. It was a great way to get to know them and learn more about life in Quito and Ecuador.

Calderón is about an hour from downtown Quito. Its location is ideal for a visit to Mitad del Mundo, and the Mindo Cloud Forest is just two hours away (well worth a visit).

I had a wonderful time at the SALC in Calderon! Esteban is very accommodating and helpful with any aspect of Ecuadorian life you need. He is incredibly flexible with timelines and very responsive.
Just know that Calderon is about 1 hour from the center of Quito - so your life here will be more local-focused with not very fast access to activities or sites to see in Quito. If that’s what you’re looking for, it would be perfect for you.
Definitely a worthwhile stop on my journey through Ecuador. Thanks for everything!

I had a very good experience with SALC Calderón. Everything was very well-organized, the accommodations and lunch were excellent, and the students were very kind and hard-working. It was nice to learn about their lives and future plans. There are lots of markets, shops, and restaurants in the area, but the main touristy areas and parks of Quito are a bit far away. I spent the weekends in other accommodations closer to the city center.
