The Experience

Yosemite homestead needs some tender, loving care & help with raised bed gardens, resident pets and livestock in the Sierra Nevada foothills, Mariposa, California. 1-2 can be accommodated. Quiet ranch-ette with beautiful views, privacy yet close to cute gold rush town. We have all 4 seasons here and my favorite time is winter. In hot summer months, mid-June, July and August. Home to horse, goats, chickens, ducks, peacocks, rabbits, dogs & cats.

I had a great two weeks with Ruth, the other volunteer, and her home in central California. Just by living with her I learned about sustainable living and cooking. I got to spend a lot of time hiking around her beautiful property both by myself and with her many dogs, and she helped with and encouraged many awesome day trips into Yosemite. The work was a good mix of daily chores and bigger individual tasks that helped contribute to a great balance between work, relaxing, and adventure over the two weeks. Also, she is a fantastic cook!

I had a wonderful time at Ruthie's farm! She prepared a variety of delicious meals for my boyfriend and me, and all her animals were so cuddly—you can't help but fall in love with each one. Ruthie also encouraged us to explore the surrounding area. There were a few communication hiccups on both sides, which led to some confusion at times, but overall it was a great experience. I will never forget mochi, sparky, and saffron!
