On the list of tasks there is the development of a vegetable garden and an orchard for personal consumption and commercial use on a slope, a system of barraginhas (check dams)/drainage/storage of rainwater, maintenance of a corral, construction of a round pen, various plantings (vegetable garden, living fence, orchard, lines of trees for an agro-silvopastoral system), irrigation systems, among others.
We are looking for people who are interested in basic and routine activities on a rural property (there's no shortage of work around here), and also people who can contribute with specific knowledge to the more technical projects. All knowledge is welcome!
You will stay in our newly renovated house where we have 1 guest room with 2 single beds (to be shared with another volunteer) and a communal bathroom. We are also open to receiving people who prefer to camp on the property and use the house bathroom.
6 days of work (Mon-Sat), 4 hours per day, schedule to be arranged.
The activities will be distributed according to the need at the moment, but the personal aptitudes of each person will also be taken into account.
Examples of activities:
- Property maintenance: sanding, painting, mowing, collecting straw, cleaning, cooking, maintenance of fences/corrals, shade structures for cattle, installation of irrigation systems, construction of a round pen, planning and implementation of barraginhas and water hoses;
- Livestock: cattle handling, horse handling, distribution of feed, maintenance/construction of a henhouse
- Cultivation: develop irrigation system, garden, soil preparation, plant garden/orchard/trees/hedge/grass;
-3 meals a day: breakfast, lunch and evening snack. Any other intermediate meal will be the volunteer's responsibility.
-Volunteers are responsible for cleaning and maintenance of the room and bathroom in which they stay
-The common areas of the house (living room, kitchen, veranda) are well equipped and have wifi and TV.
-The cleaning of the house is done 1x per week (deducted from the hours of work), maintenance is done during the week when using the spaces. If you make a mess, you clean it.
