Heal with the Earth, permaculture & food systems in Alentejo π±
The experience
Food grown from degraded dryland is one of the most powerful things you can grow.
In this role you will work in our permaculture garden, tend food systems, care for plants and maintain the water systems that make it all possible. You will learn how to adapt in a dry and hot climate β composting, seed saving, building soil health and understanding how water moves through land.
Practical, grounding and full of life. π±π₯

Program Details
PurposeFlow is a land-based living project in Pavia, Alentejo. Volunteers join a rotating community of 10β15 people working on land restoration, food systems, natural building and communal living on six hectares in one of Europe's driest regions.
Volunteers contribute 15β25 hours per week depending on their chosen exchange model. Mornings are structured working time. Most afternoons are free..
Life here is real: shared bell tents, compost toilets, limited water, and genuine community. It is challenging and it is rich. The people who thrive here come ready to contribute, communicate openly and find the good in a tough environment..
We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds. Communal meals are fully plant-based.
Activities & Shift
Shifts run 4β5 mornings per week, roughly 3β5 hours each.
π± Permaculture garden β planting, weeding, mulching and bed preparation
π₯ Implementation for pre food-forest systemsβ tending trees, understory plants and agroforestry systems
π§ Water systems β maintaining and developing water retention, irrigation and harvesting features
π± Seed saving, composting and soil building
π± Harvesting and caring for seasonal produce
πΏ Learning the principles behind what you are building β not just the tasks
Afternoons are mostly yours β rest, explore, join workshops or connect with the community. Community circles and activities happen throughout the week and are optional.
Rules
π Water is scarce here. Use it mindfully β showers, dishes and personal use all count.
π± All communal meals are plant-based and vegan. Private consumption of non-vegan food is your own responsibility and is fine..
π§Ή Leave communal spaces cleaner than you found them. This applies to everyone without exception..
π€ Communicate directly. If something is not working β with the space, the work, or another person β say so. Passive friction spreads quickly in a small community..
π¦ Contributions: volunteers are expected to honour their chosen exchange model (hours and/or weekly food contribution)..
πΎ Pets: welcome with prior conversation. We have animals on the land and their safety comes first..
π« We will ask someone to leave if their behaviour causes consistent harm to others, to the animals, or to the land.
