I had a wonderful experience at the home. The homestay itself is very peaceful, with beautiful clear views of Mt Kinabalu in the mornings. Ismail is incredibly kind and welcoming. On my first night he cooked dinner for all us volunteers, and also took us to a beach and out for dinner during our stay. The tasks were simple and straight forward. Hours are generally flexible, so plenty of time to explore the surrounding area! There’s a kitchen available to cook your own meals. I recommend bringing enough food with you, as the local store has limited options. Overall a lovely experience!

It was a wonderful experience that I highly recommend. I met amazing people from different countries, made great friends, explored beautiful surroundings, and enjoyed learning how to cook Thai food. This experience helped me develop new skills and learn more about different cultures. I am very grateful for this experience. If you enjoy nature, making new friends, and discovering Chiang Mai, this is a great place to be.

I really enjoyed my stay at Ismail's place! He always made me feel welcome, and the work is light. The bamboo hut is simple. After weeks of noisy Vietnam, the quiet of the village was welcome. It's a wonderful opportunity to meet locals and get to know the real Malaysia, not the commercialized tourist front. And the view of Mount Kinabalu every morning is priceless! Warning! If you need lightning fast internet, I'd recommend you keep looking. It's reliable, but it is rural Malaysia.

The home is absolutely beautiful. It's very slow & quiet (except for the wildlife), so it's a great place to relax, meditate, reflect, or just read a book. The work is very quick & straightforward & Ismail & his family are very kind. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone who is looking for some stillness.

I had a really pleasant volunteering experience in the home! The host was warm and welcoming, and the responsibilities very reasonable and clearly explained. We also got to take part in fun local activities like making a fish trap, which made the stay feel more immersive. The locals were genuinely friendly, and the host helped us rent a bike, making it easy to explore the surrounding area. It's a quiet, peaceful retreat and a great break from the usual hustle and bustle of travel.

This was my first volunteering experience and it was a blast of happiness. Ismael is a great host, very kind and always making sure you feel comfortable. The tasks are simple and quick, the house is made of bamboo, and there’s tons of free time to explore beaches, rice fields, and mountains. The place is calm, peaceful, and ideal if you’re looking to connect with nature. I met awesome people, got a taste of local life, and felt like I was on vacation while being helpful. Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks Ismael

Ismail is a lovely host, always open for a chat and really wants to let you experience the home/ Kota Belud. Kota Belud itself is small but beautiful to explore for a few weeks. Your stay will be in a bamboo house which is basic but good. You only work a few hours a day which gives you enough time to explore the area or to do your own things. Overall would recommend if you are looking for a quite and local experience!

Ismail was a lovely host, definitely enjoyed my time in his homestay!!! Perfect place to switch off away from busy and bustling places, learning new things about nature, as well as learning our own perspective on various types of world life!!! The tasks I was given by Ismail was very easy and manageable, couldn't ask for anything more or less from him, and thank you Ismail for having me!!!

I had an amazing stay at Tuan the home! Ismail and the locals in the village made me feel so welcome and showed me so much kindness! I got to attend a local traditional sports day during my stay which was such an honour and a unique experience! This place is great for connecting with nature as there are rice paddies surrounding the village which look stunning, especially at sunset! The homestay tasks are straightforward and will only take up a couple of hours in the morning leaving the rest of the time to explore the local area!

My experience in the home was unforgettable . First of all, the tasks were really easy and I had a free time to explore the place . Also , Ismail and his family were really helpful and friendly . They even invited me to a family ceremony for a childbirth so I learned a lot of things for their culture , which was really interesting . The place is really quiet and near to nature . I totally recommend this experience to other volunteers .The only thing that you should know is to rent a bicycle from here to explore the town as it is a little far from the center .
