I kind of expected this, still was a bit shocked, the living conditions are pretty difficult for the volunteers: theres no hot water, I slept on a matress on the floor with no real bedding and there are rats around at night. Sleeping can get difficult, most nights the dogs bark and howl the whole night, if your sleep is light, you wont get much. The work is hard, but it was so worth it to me, none of the 300 dogs bite, you can just feel their gratitutide, The host, Nikos really dedicated his life to the dogs and the the shelter, it's a unique and wonderful place and it has a lot of potential still

This was my first worldpackers experience and I loved it so much! Nikos is an amazing enthusiastic person and great at teaching even with broken english (which you get used to quickly). Working with and for the dogs was such a rewarding experience and I recommend it to everyone that is looking for real life experience and beautiful memories! Do mind that the accommodations are VERY simple, I stayed in a room without electricity but Nikos gave me a big light and there are gas heaters. Also have in mind a dog will live in your room too (yes, it gets messy at times). Overall amazing experience!

When the host was stressed or in a bad mood, he would let it out on me and one time he even screamed. He could've apologised and also I asked him just to not scream at me again, but he just tried to gaslight me into thinking that it's my fault. I was thinking about going away, but I stayed for the dogs and also because I didn't have much money left to live on my own. Him calling me out for something that's not my fault happened two times and I would not go back just because of his temperaments.

Nikos is very welcoming and gentle, as every dogs in the the shelter who deserves a lot of love. I had to shrink my trip but during the few days the work was very pleasant. Be aware that the conditions of living are very difficult: no hot water for showering, sometimes just one meal, not much electricity, moisture, and you'll live with dogs in your rooms that poop and pee inside so lots of bad smells even when you clean it… I just think that it will be better if volunteers are aware of that before coming at the the shelter. Nevertheless it has been a learning experience.

I would recommend volunteering at the the shelter to anyone!! Nikos was so genuine and welcoming when I arrived and made sure I was never short of anything! You could really see his love and his passion for what he does! Everyday there was different which I enjoyed, it never felt like work! No matter what tasks you were doing that day, there was always time to socialise with the dogs of course :) I unfortunately had to cut my stay short but I hope I can return in the future!!

I loved my time at the the shelter. It has taught me important skills, and it also gave the opportunity to immerse myself in the experience and be in the present moment. The dogs are all lovely, my favourite was Eric, and there are other animals such as cats & a horse! It's in a beautiful setting with stunning views. Nikos' dedication was really inspiring and you can really tell how much he loves them all. This was my first Worldpackers experience and it was amazing for me - I would love to return! The accomodation is simple however it worked perfectly for me. Thank you Nikos & the the shelter!

Nikos was very welcoming and it was clear he wanted the volunteers to be happy and cared for! All the (roughly 300) dogs are all super friendly. There was a good routine looking after the dogs, with enough breaks to not over work yourself, especially when it's hot! Nikos supplied more than enough food every day. I didn't however have any clean sheets for the first couple nights, which I wasn't aware of before. Some other volunteers and I also felt that the online coordinator we spoke to, wasn't always the clearest when answering questions. But overall the experience at the the shelter was great!

I absolutely over my stay at bronxfamilia the the shelter! Nikos and Caro are the most amazing people ever and treat you so well. The work days vary with the amount of work you have to do and every day is different, which taught me resilience and really brought me closer to the dogs. While the accomodation is quite simple, nikos accommodates your needs very well with what they have, and you will end up being spoiled with drinks and food throughout the day. I truly recommend this volunteering experience, such an amazing 3 weeks!

Volunteering at the the shelter was the most amazing experience. The love and energy that is put into the the shelter is evident through how happy and sweet all of the animals are. It was an extremely rewarding experience. I learned so much, not only about caring for animals but about myself I have gained confidence and an ability for decision making, communication and working in a team. I bonded well with the other volunteers from all over the world. I would recommend the shelter to anyone who happy to get stuck in and help out, all of the hard work you put in you get back in love from the animals.❤️

Nikos and Caro are very loving people and I got on well with both of them. I have taken all the dogs to my heart and would come here again and again. It's definitely worth the experience.
