Program Details

We appreciate the energy and creativity that our helpers bring. We welcome reliable, hard-working individuals who enjoy animals and are ready to participate in the daily routines of a working cage-free dog resort. Life here follows the rhythm of caring for many dogs and maintaining a clean, well-organized environment.

Much of the help involves practical tasks such as cleaning accommodations, maintaining outdoor spaces, and helping keep the property running smoothly. Volunteers should be comfortable working outdoors in different weather conditions and contributing as part of a small team. A positive attitude, respect for others, and a cooperative spirit are important here, as helpers share living spaces and work together.

Our resort has been operating since 1996 and sits on 25 acres of fully fenced parklands in the heart of Muskoka’s cottage country, with forest trails and spring-fed swimming ponds for the dogs. Helpers from around the world have joined us since 1999, contributing to the welcoming environment we strive to maintain. In return, you’ll experience life behind the scenes at a unique dog resort while enjoying the forests, lakes, and natural beauty of Muskoka. This opportunity is best suited to people who enjoy teamwork, animals, and contributing positively to a shared environment.

What You’ll Do

Help maintain the daily operations of a working dog resort. Tasks typically include cleaning accommodations, maintaining dog parks and water stations, and helping keep the property organized and running smoothly. Dogs bring a lot of joy—and sometimes a bit of mess—so keeping their spaces clean is an important part of the daily routine.

Depending on the season, helpers may also assist with outdoor tasks such as gardening, snow clearing, and general property upkeep. In winter, this may include snowshoeing through the property with some of the dogs to help create new trails and give them healthy exercise.

Our dogs enjoy large off-leash parks and swimming ponds, so helpers should be comfortable around groups of active dogs and enjoy spending time outdoors.

Schedule

Four days per week. We typically meet at 8:30 a.m. to review the day’s plan and tasks, and work begins at 9:00 a.m.
Depending on the day, we may either work straight through and finish around 2:00 p.m., or take a lunch break and finish around 3:00–3:30 p.m. Schedules can vary slightly depending on weather, the dogs, and seasonal tasks.

Additional Skills

Helpers with additional skills—such as cooking, photography, or social media—are welcome to share their talents if they wish, although the primary focus is supporting the daily routines of the resort.

Why Join Us

This is an opportunity to experience life at a unique cage-free dog resort in Muskoka’s cottage country while contributing to a small team that cares deeply about animals and maintaining a positive, cooperative environment. We value a positive, respectful atmosphere where helpers support one another and contribute to a cooperative team environment.

Rules

Respect for the animals, the property, and the people here is essential.

Helpers share living spaces, so we ask everyone to keep common areas tidy and to clean their accommodation before departure using the provided checklist.

Because we care for many dogs in a cage-free environment, gates are very important. If a gate is closed, please keep it closed; if it is open, leave it open. Always be mindful when moving through gates so that dogs do not slip past.

Our property operates on a septic system, which requires care. Only toilet paper should be flushed—no wipes, sanitary products, condoms, or other materials—and please avoid harsh chemicals that can damage the system.

We work as a small team and appreciate helpers who support one another, communicate openly, and contribute to a positive and cooperative environment.

Please return tools, equipment, and supplies to their proper places after use so that the property stays organized and safe for everyone.

Reliability, punctuality, and a willingness to help one another make the daily routine run smoothly for both the animals and the team.

Use of the Van:

Helpers may share use of our older van or travel together into town and the surrounding area, depending on availability. Please use it responsibly, keep it clean, replace fuel, and let us know if any issues arise. Be mindful of others so everyone has the opportunity to join and use it. Trips should stay within a reasonable distance. If you may be driving, please send your driver’s license (and, if possible, a driving abstract) to [email protected] for insurance purposes.
