Program Details

Finca Ecupasil is a horse farm in Extremadura, Spain, with 20 horses on 25 hectares of land. Here natural horsemanship is practiced. In addition to working on his own farm, José also cares for problem horses at other farms or takes in horses to train them. The farm is located 2.5 kilometers from the town of Jaraiz de la Vera (7,000 inhabitants), full of bars, cafes and shops.

Life on the farm is simple and close to nature. Volunteers live in rustic cabins, while the kitchen and bathroom are with the horses, about a 5-10 minute walk away.
In the surroundings there are natural areas for swimming, such as a lake and crystal-clear mountain pools.
Volunteers have the opportunity to integrate into the life of the town, participate in local fiestas and meet new people or retire and enjoy the tranquility of nature.

Volunteer tasks
- Help with training and care of the horses
- Help with farm and property work
- Support in children's camps

Activities & Shift

Farm activities are listed below. Volunteers adjust to the schedule previously agreed with them. They are not the same activities every day as it depends on the season, weather, and day of the week. Around 8:30 in the morning we feed the horses and the other animals. Afterwards we have breakfast and then there are various activities depending on the day: Horseback rides with people who come to the farm, camps with children, work with the horses or work with other horses on other farms. Lunch around 14:30 and a nap or rest. At 16:00 we start some activity until 20:00 when we feed the animals and return them to the field where they normally live. Not all days are the same since there are several activities with the different horses. There are also tasks to take care of nature and the surroundings. Occasionally we do horse-assisted therapies for people with functional diversity, and hippotherapy.

Rules

Respect for the animals and the environment around you. Follow safety rules, especially while riding or working with them. Adhere to the agreement you committed to before coming.
