Jose was a great host! Private room was nice and meals were provided. Was fun to be able to help with the host and content. It's outside of the city center so a bit harder to socialize with other travelers than it would be at a hostel or something, but I still had a good time! He was also flexible if I wanted to do another activity or stay in town for a night.

While I tried the host, my experience was deeply disrespected. Unpaid Hours & Meals: I worked 10 hours on day one (dismissed as a "visit") with no food provided. Meals were consistently skipped or delayed. Restricted Freedom: No house key was provided, leaving me locked outside until midnight once. Lunch money was withheld to keep me indoors. Disrespect: Asking politely about checkout got me abruptly kicked out. The host also made derogatory remarks with his family about my nationality in Spanish. I cannot recommend this host.

"No podemos recomendar a este voluntario. Llegó antes de la fecha acordada y lo recibimos por cortesía. Sin embargo, no mostró ningún interés en trabajar ni en colaborar con el proyecto; incluso su tarea principal (mantener ordenado el equipo) se negó a realizarla. Solo hizo uso de los servicios de la casa (comida, duchas, lavandería e internet) sin aportar la ayuda, fue tan mala su colaboracion que el equipo entero le tubo que decir que se vaya. realmente eres una persona muy peresosa, y floja.

I absolutely loved working for the host, so sad to be leaving! Getting to be out in the Chili river every day taking photos was so beautiful and the team were really great to work with. Jose is super lovely and makes you feel safe and at home in Arequipa, whether that was during the work days or afterwards exploring the town. It felt like having a personal tour guide so we spent lots of time meeting his friends, attending hostel parties and getting access to discounted the host around Arequipa. My Spanish has improved massively during this time. Thank you for such an unforgettable experience!

José is really nice and wants you to feel good during your stay there. But to be honest, it is a bit dirty there. So I didn't want to use the kitchen there, which is also fine cause food is mostly included and also quite cheap here to buy. Sometimes it is also a bit stressful when there are many the host & I had to work more than 15h per week (actually never really knew when I was supposed to help and when not). But I liked the work, so it was fine. Also my free days where mostly very spontaneously. Which can also be nice if you want to do something a specific day, he usually can make it happen.

Jose is a very active, adventurous and open minded person. Jose invites you into his hobbies, circle of friends and way of life. I painted some murals for his space and in exchange got to go in the river. Water the host is an intense and unique experience and the guides are well trained and make you feel safe. While I was there, half way through the river was closed to water rafters so that made it complicated going to the water. Alea , the trainee water the host guide was very helpful in explaining to me how everything worked at the host. We also did lots of salsa dancing classes!

El voluntariado más divertido que hice!! Arequipa es una ciudad hermosa, el Río Chili es increíble, el clima y la naturaleza es espectacular. Tuve una habitación para mí sola así que estuve muuuy cómoda. José es muy simpático y atento, todos los guías unos genios, me dejaron participar y aprender en todo!! Fue una gran experiencia, muchísimas gracias 🫶🏻

J'ai passé un très bon moment chez l'hôte, en créant des vidéos pour leur réseaux sociaux, donc j'étais souvent dehors à filmer et prendre des photos le long de la rivière. J'ai pu faire du l'hôte avec les guides qui sont adorables, c'était vraiment cool. La chambre était super confortable je me suis sentie super bien. José m'a laissé très indépendante sur les tâches à faire, donc je gérais mon temps comme je le voulais. Néanmoins si vous avez besoin de consignes claires, le travail est justement très libre et cela fonctionne bien si vous êtes force d'initiative et indépendant !

Tive uma ótima experiência voluntariando no anfitrião, fui muito bem recebida desde o primeiro dia pelo anfitrião José e pela equipe. José é um ótimo anfitrião que se preocupa em fazer que a experiência do voluntariado seja ótima. Sobre o trabalho; Eu adorei ir para o Rio Chili gravar vídeos, o Rio é lindo e tem paisagens incríveis, e também tive a oportunidade de fazer o anfitrião e foi incrível os guias são ótimos e profissionais. Além disso tive a oportunidade de fazer a logo da empresa o que foi algo muito interessante para mim. Adorei meu tempo no anfitrião obrigada por tudo, José e sua equipe.
