Program Details

Our volunteer program is based in Mathare and focuses on empowering youth and women through vocational training, digital skills, and community development initiatives. Volunteers become part of a structured learning environment where they support ongoing training sessions led by local staff. We expect volunteers to be respectful, reliable, open-minded, and willing to actively engage in hands-on community work. In return, volunteers gain meaningful cultural exchange, real grassroots experience, and the opportunity to contribute directly to skills development and livelihood improvement in an urban informal settlement setting.

Activities & Shift

Volunteers participate in structured activities Monday to Friday for approximately 4–6 hours per day. Daily tasks depend on the program but may include assisting trainers during vocational classes (tailoring, carpentry, ICT), supporting digital literacy lessons, helping women’s empowerment workshops, and engaging in community outreach activities. Volunteers may also help set up classrooms, organize materials, support learners during practical exercises, and participate in group mentoring or discussions. Schedules are shared in advance and may vary slightly depending on program needs. Weekends are generally free unless special community events are planned.
