Dumbo Hostel is a great place to volunteer, the hostel itself has a nice, calm social vibe where you can really get to know other travellers as well as volunteers passing through. Phoebe and Jason are both very kind and let me extend my time with them with no problem when the weather delayed by travel plans. The work is quick and easy, very reasonable. If you are travelling need somewhere to slow down and plan your next move I would 100% recommend coming here :)

Staying in the Dumbo Hostel was one of the best volunteering experiences I ever had. Jeremy and Phoebe where sooo welcoming and kindhearted. It felt like having a little family with them and the other volunteers there.
The work is fun and well organized. They where always available if I had questions and explained the work in detail.
The hostel is also very social which made it easy to get to know people.
Hualien is the perfect place if you wanna realax and enjoy some nature. I really enjoyed my stay and cant recommend it enought!

I had a lovely time at Dumbo Hostel and would highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in Hualien! Phoebe and Jeremy were extremely kind and the cleaning tasks were explained clearly and exactly as outlined on Worldpackers. The hostel has a very homey feel to it and I loved the mornings when everyone would gather around for breakfast :). There is plenty to do in Hualien and along the east coast of Taiwan (especially if you can ride a scooter, but a bike is also fine!!).

I had such a lovely time here. The common room is super cozy, you can use the kitchen supplies to cook your own food and there are bicycles available you can use for free. Phoebe and Jeremy were super welcoming, they were very chill hosts and I could always go to them with any questions. I had the breakfast shift, they teach you how to prepare max. 4 different meals you will prepare for the guests in rotation. Very easy and tasty too, because you get free breakfast every morning :). Work is max. 2,5 hours every morning, and then you have all day to explore Hualien. A very lovely place to be 💜

My time at dumbo hostel was so nice! The hostel itself feels like a big home rather than a hostel which I felt was really sweet! I loved all the other volunteers I was working with and the room we shared was really cozy and nice! Jeremy & Pheobe were so kind to me and always were flexible if I wanted to change my days off! The work is very simple & easy, you have a lot of free time to explore Hualien 😁 I miss the scallion pancakes for breakfast already :(

It was an amazing experience! The work is super light and fun. I really liked to prepare the breakfast for the guests cause I learnt how to cook traditional taiwanese dishes and also cause I could talk with both international and local people.
The owners are the best, super friendly and comprehensive. They have good leadership skills and they will be there for what you need.
The city, the mountain and the sea offers you many different options to spend your free time.
The room for the volunteers is really nice too, the space is more than enough.

Phoebe and Jeremy were the absolute best! It was like having a little family in Hualien. I did the breakfast role which was so fun especially if you're an extrovert as you get to interact with other guests every morning! Honestly didn't feel like any work at all and felt more like hosting friends :) Room was also super comfy and spacious and the hosts also gave lots of recs and help with getting around and exploring. Miss you guys already <3

Had a great time in Hualien thanks to Phoebe and Jeremy. They carefully prepared all the possible recommendations for guests and volunteers to get to know hualien and surrounding areas. The job was very easy, an mostly could be done in less than 2 hours per day. They were also very flexible when coordinating days off. The rooms were also very comfortable and you get a pretty good free breakfast everyday. I highly recommend this volunteering if you want to explore the east of Taiwan on a budget.
