Hello and welcome to the BOHO Experience!

Volunteering at BOHO is an experience like no other. We are a community, a business, and a philosophy.

We are a property located in Kockengen in the Utrecht region of the Netherlands.
Our 2 main houses are short-stay accommodations rented for various events: retreats, birthdays, holidays, and get togethers.
Boasting 2 beautiful original Dutch county homes, 2 wellness areas with jacuzzies and saunas, individual caravans for each volunteer or couple/pair staying with us, shared laundry with washing machine and dryer, a private jetty to access the canal for swimming, a traditional Yurt for yoga/meditation/ceremony, herb and vegetable gardens, a private kitchen/lounge/bathroom for volunteers, and bikes to use to explore the surrounding countryside.

Our volunteers are free to stay in the houses and use the jacuzzi/sauna wellness areas when we have no guests. All other areas are open to them even when we have guests - we encourage people to explore our property and to connect with the nature that exists in every corner of our small community.

We also have a number of animals who live here : 12 chickens and 2 cats.

All meals are provided and our kitchen is stocked weekly with fresh fruit, vegetables, meats, vegetarian meats, cheeses, eggs, milk, oat milk, legumes, pasta and so much more! Breakfast and lunch are open for everyone to make their own meals from the kitchen supplies, and each night a different volunteer is responsible for cooking for the group as a way to come together in the evenings.

BOHO is about spiritual exploration, personal growth, self expression and creativity.

Activities & Shift

Our shifts are 5 hours 5 days a week.

Our schedule is flexible due to every day having different task requirements.

Days when we have house check outs we start at 11am and work until 4pm.

Other days we start earlier as it means the day finishes earlier.
Days off vary and we try to be as flexible as possible with requests for particular days off if needed/preferred.

The days that you are cooking for the group, you finish an hour early.

The work is varied. Cleaning the houses is straight forward and we have lots of systems in place to make this as simple as possible.

Work outside can be moving wood, weeding/mowing/watering the garden, taking care of the chickens, painting and fixing things around the property or cleaning of shared community areas, just to name a few regular tasks we have.

We like to have people working together as much as possible so as to build a team environment, but we also require people who are comfortable working alone when needed.

Physical fitness doesn’t mean you need to be in peak condition, but you do need to be physically able to contribute to all the different types of tasks we have.

Rules

We don’t like to have ‘rules’ at BOHO so much as guidelines for peaceful and happy co-living.

All volunteers are required to cook for the community. This is not an option as everyone must take their turn at least once a week.
Even if you aren’t confident in the kitchen, simple is best and it’s a great opportunity to get outside your comfort zone and learn new skills!

Work here is something everyone needs to be comfortable committing to. We have easy days but we also have chaotic challenging ones - like the flow of the ocean. We want everyone to feel safe and comfortable in their tasks but we also expect work to be done. BOHO offers a very supportive and generous environment and we expect this to be a two way street.

Communication is king at BOHO. We ask that if you feel uncomfortable or are having any issues during your stay here, please reach out to one of our managers or the owner of the property. We pride ourselves on holding space for people to be themselves and are aware that living in a community space can sometimes have its challenges. Please don’t hesitate to communicate any questions or issues you may have during your stay with us.
