This was by far the most authentic travel experience I have ever had. Staying with a local in the middle of nowhere gave me a truly unique insight into local life and a beautiful connection with nature.

The local people were incredibly kind and welcoming, and the children were so open and curious that teaching was a real joy.

Maharlika is a very kind caring, and open-minded person. He was always attentive to my needs, adapted the activities to my energy level, and was incredibly helpful though out my stay.

It was a truly meaningful and wonderful adventure.

The project is an incredible host : welcoming, joyful, and an amazing cook. I felt quickly comfortable. Every day was unique, with farm work based on permaculture, teaching English, cooking traditional dishes, and meeting wonderful locals. The work at the farm depend on the season (planting, harvesting, maintain,...). The host always adapted activities to my energy and interests. I learned so much from him and the community while enjoying a simple and peaceful lifestyle. This was the perfect first solo trip, and I highly recommend this volunteering project. Thank you for everything, the project!

This experience was truly special because it gave me the opportunity to experience a genuine cultural immersion.
Living with a local allowed me to discover the culture in a natural and authentic way through daily life, conversations, habits and small shared moments everyday.
I felt welcomed from the very beginning and I really appreciated the host’s kindness, openness and generosity.
During my stay, I also had medical issues, and in a difficult moment, he was incredibly caring and supportive.
It was an enriching experience, culturally and personally.
I highly recommend this experience!!!

I had a great time staying with the project! The daily schedule was to "go with the flow" wich ment that no day was the same and I got to visit a lot of different schools, teach english, meet the people in the villages, learn about local plants and join making local food. Thank you Maharlika for welcoming me and teaching me about life in Banjarnegara!

The project is the best host you can expect. This was my first experience with the worldpackers and I must say that I am completely satisfied with everything. I spent a week around the village helping in daily tasks, learning how to cook indonesian food from the hands of housewives, learned about the project's food forest and permaculture project and teaching english to him as well as children through the village! If you want to immers yourself into real nature and the authentic local experience of Java, this is your volunteering job to take! You won't regret it!

My time with the project was great! He's an extremely nice and positive person who made conversation easy. He introduced me to so many local plants and vegetables and I learned a ton about traditional indonesian food. The activities were very diverse and even when it was raining we found ways to spend our time well. Visiting the local kindergartens and playing volleyball was great way of getting in touch with more local people. I can recommend this opportunity to any volunteer looking for a truly authentic experience.

We had an incredibly fun time staying with the project (espacially while playing cards). To experience how he lives in harmony with nature. We both learned much about sustainability and permaculture. He showed us for example how to make coffe, fried bananas or Cassafaflour and so much more, it was very interesting and we learned so many new things. We felt totaly welcomed from the begining and became real friends :)

I had a truly wonderful week staying with the project! He's incredibly funny and embodies authentic Indonesian culture. Living in his village was an amazing experience; he generously shared so much about traditional food and local culture. I also had a fantastic time helping out on his farm, where I enjoyed an abundance of healthy, new foods. the project is genuinely a good person, showing great care for the elderly in his village, respect for his father, and kindness towards all volunteers. For an authentic taste of Indonesian culture, I highly recommend staying here!
