Natural building & eco-construction project
The experience
Right now the main focus at Ruka Ñuke is improving and finishing different spaces on the land so the project can continue growing.
We are building and repairing small structures using simple techniques and natural materials whenever possible. Volunteers who enjoy working with their hands, learning construction skills and creating things together usually love this experience.

Program Details
At Ruka Ñuke we are developing and improving different spaces on the plot using simple natural building techniques (clay, straw, stone and local wood). In this stage of the project, volunteer work is mainly focused on supporting bioconstruction and infrastructure maintenance.
Participants have the opportunity to learn basic natural building techniques while living the experience of a family eco-plot in the coastal drylands of Chile, sharing day-to-day life with our family and other volunteers.
We offer simple accommodation, healthy meals and the possibility of participating in a real project that aims to regenerate the land and build a space for community living in harmony with nature.
Activities & Shift
Work is normally organized in two daily blocks:
9:00 – 13:00
and some days a short block in the afternoon
16:00 – 18:00 (if weather and work require).
Activities may include:
• preparation of clay and natural mixtures
• support in lifting walls and plasters
• improvements and repairs to structures
• installation or repair of irrigation pipes
• general maintenance of the plot
• occasionally support in simple tasks such as irrigation or animal care
Meals are organized communally. Often we cook and eat together, and everyone helps in maintaining the common spaces.
Rules
We seek respectful people, with a good disposition for community life and teamwork.
• respect for people, family and animals
• collaborative attitude and willingness to learn
• we take care of shared spaces and tools
• we prefer to avoid cellphone use during meals
• we use ecological dry toilets, we explain their use upon arrival
• we share a mainly ovo-lacto-vegetarian diet
• we recommend bringing work clothes, gloves, hat and flashlight
Life on the plot is simple and peaceful, so we value people who enjoy nature and respectful coexistence.
