Simon was an awesome host, helped with daily life and work balance, and support when needed. The staff were lovely people to work with and be around, and the beach was lovely. The accommodation had everything you needed, and I enjoyed the experience at the home.

I had a great experience here and would highly recommend it to anyone considering it. Simon is a fantastic host—friendly, supportive, and always willing to help. The people you work with are welcoming and create a really positive environment. The work itself is rewarding, and it feels good to be part of something meaningful. On top of that, the area where you stay is great, making the overall experience even better. A truly memorable and worthwhile opportunity!

Simon is really professional and organized, but even very humane. He does what he can to help the guests and make the machine work. Shifts schedule is done and sent in advance, then repsected. Provides the rides to and from the activity, and supplies for food. He's the best crewboss, he only asks for respect and common sense. The stay is comfy, but can be tight on high season; matter of organization. It's not in the middle of a crowded city, so plan your movements with Grab and the local Bus Terminal. Bandar Penawar is not crowded, but it's very cheap. I recommend to get in touch with locals.

Loved my time volunteering in Malaysia with the home! Great people, chill vibes, and such a fun team to work with. Simon is incredibly generous and thoughtful — and also a little sassy and hilarious, which honestly made the experience even better. You really feel taken care of here. It's the perfect balance of immersing yourself in Malaysian culture while still having plenty of chill time to slow down, reset, and reconnect with yourself, OR to go and explore in Malaysia on your MANY days off. Would 100% recommend this to anyone looking for a meaningful, fun, and laid-back experience.

I had a good experience overall. Most of the staff were friendly and welcoming. On most days, I worked alone for an 8-hour shift, mainly waiting for customers, which could be quite quiet and repetitive. I was also hoping to have more opportunities to try different water sports, such as jet skiing or wake surfing. Nevertheless, I appreciated the experience and the people I met during my stay.

I spent three weeks here, working 3 days a week from 9am to 7pm, with 4 days off. On my days off I could use the non-motorised equipment for free. The work can be quite repetitive, especially in the hotel outlets.
The food budget was also a little tight, even though I always cooked for myself. I felt that Simon was rather distant. Outside of work, there was little interaction or interest in getting to know me, so I felt more like another employee than a volunteer there for a cultural exchange. The guys working there were really friendly and funny, and I enjoyed working with them.

I arrived by taxi (£30) as I could not find any buses going from JB. As I had my suitcase it would be difficult to travel there by bus. It was retail with later opportunity for helping with events but closer to the time I was leaving. The other staff were lovely. The reason why I decided to leave was because of how isolated it is. you are picked up and dropped off to do volunteering. You have no access to own transport even a bicycle to get to the shops quicker. Additionally, Simon was hot/cold I asked once about days I'll work and the switch in attitude was crazy. I decided to leave.

The experience was not what I expected. The tasks mainly involve maintenance and sales in equipment rental shops, so you end up as just another staff member. Most of my shifts were spent alone in a hotel shop for 8 hours with not much else to do. The schedule is 9am to 7pm, 3 days a week, with 4 days off. Desaru doesn't offer much beyond the beach, and I was never able to use the jet ski equipment as advertised. The atmosphere feels heavy, with a lot of stress among the staff. The vibe can be uncomfortable—people aren't always friendly, and sometimes they don't even greet you.

I did not stay at this experience as what was agreed was not provided. He expected us to work 4 days our first week with no food provided. He says there is a per diem paid after the week of work but despite asking us to work an extra day he said our first amount would be reduced based on when we got there. The amount he says to provide is also not enough for more than 5 meals a week and the closest store is a 25 minute walk that he doesn’t give you a ride from with your groceries. Overall I would not recommend to go to this experience If you are a budget traveller as you will spend a lot.
