Steward the Land, Share the Harvest 🌿
The experience
BROOMHILL is a living ecological stewardship project nestled in New Zealand's alpine landscape. Here, the gardens, food forests and surrounding whenua are cared for through everyday participation rather than production alone.
We grow seasonal food, tend the soil, share simple nourishing meals and care for the many relationships that allow a place to thrive. Learning isn't delivered through a programme—it emerges naturally through observing, aski

Program Details
BROOMHILL Sanctuary is a living ecological stewardship project among the hills of Glenorchy. Participation follows the changing needs of the gardens, food forests and wider ecosystem, shaped by season, weather and the rhythm of the land.
Hands-on activities may include organic gardening, food forest care, seed saving, composting, native habitat restoration, landscaping and occasional physical land projects. The work is varied, practical and connected to caring for this place.
Your participation:
We welcome people who contribute with care, curiosity and presence. Some tasks can be physically demanding, and a reasonable level of fitness is needed for working on our hillside property. Flexibility is important, as weather and seasonal priorities naturally shape each day.
No previous experience is required. What matters most is reliability, openness to learning, respect for people and place, and a willingness to participate as part of a living system.
We value self-awareness, communication and responsibility for your own wellbeing while sharing space and resources with others. Meaningful participation comes through showing up and engaging with the daily rhythm.
Life at BROOMHILL:
Learning happens through observation, conversation and doing things together. Residents share fresh seasonal vegetarian meals and simple eco-accommodation with views towards Paradise and Tāhuna Glenorchy.
Daily life includes space for rest, forest walks and personal exploration. Through relationship with this place and the people who steward it, deeper conversations may naturally arise around plants, ecology, inner awareness and the connection between all living systems.
BROOMHILL is a living, evolving project, with each season bringing new needs and opportunities.

Evenings are shared through meal preparation, dining and clean-up, followed by a quieter rhythm. As BROOMHILL is also our family home, evenings naturally include personal and family time, creating space for everyone to rest and recharge.
Weekly, there may be opportunities to participate in BROOMHILL gatherings and local community offerings.
We appreciate people who bring curiosity, initiative and a willingness to engage with the living rhythm of this place.
