We’re a lively family with five kids at home, lots of animals, and two parents juggling a home business, a full‑time job and a dance school. We are a big, inclusive family living in a lively home filled with kids, animals and a lot of daily activity. I (Marsha) run my own business from home (P&O manager) and Yoko works full‑time as a lifeguard while also running their own dance school. I also live with a disability that makes it harder to keep up with the physical side of running a household. Because of all this, life can get a little chaotic but it’s always warm, kind and full of humour.
We usually host one volunteer at a time to help us keep things running smoothly. Most of the help we need is with cleaning, tidying and keeping the house organized. You’ll also help care for our animals: feeding, cleaning up after them, walking the dog and giving our (foster)cats plenty of love. Occasionally, there may be small tasks in the stable.
If you enjoy being part of a busy, loving household where things don’t always go according to plan but there is always support, good food and something to laugh about, you will feel right at home here.
Most of the help happens during the day, usually between 9:00 and 14:00 while the kids are at school. This is when most of the cleaning, tidying and general organizing takes place. You may also help with small daily tasks like cleaning litter boxes, or taking the dog for a walk.
In the evenings, we appreciate help with cleaning up after dinner, but the rest of the afternoon and evening are yours to enjoy. We don’t run on a strict schedule, life with kids, animals and two working parents is naturally unpredictable so what matters most to us is good communication. If you’d like to go hiking, take a day trip, or shift your hours for something special, just talk to us. We’re flexible and always happy to find a solution that works for everyone.
