This was truly special to me. I grew very fond of this fun, hardworking family and the always-up-for-a-challenge volunteers. Coming in autumn, I helped with herding, harvesting, goat shit (my unexpected favourite haha), cooking, cleaning and more. Despite long days, tough work and unpredictable schedules, I leave with precious memories and admiration for the family's grit. Special mentions to Altaa's mischievous eyes, Minjee's girlboss aura, Dolia's language nights, and Tuugi and the kittens (Petits chats hihi), who made my stay even more memorable… maybe ;)

What an incredible fun and replenishing time we had with Dolia, Alta, Minje and all the rest of the family.

From herding cattle on a horse, to deworming sheep tails, bailing hay, cooking local food and Dolia’s amazing buzz and just spending some time amongst all the lovely souls, the other volunteers and animals there, the cats (we miss missy so much 😭), in an incredible landscape under a dry autumn steppe sun.

We can highly recommend volunteering with this wonderful family as your first steps into exploring Mongolia and ease into the local culture. Thanks so much to everyone ❤️

I really enjoyed my time here! I was lucky to stay with such a fun family, and meet many other volunteers. I came in Autumn, so work was centered around harvesting, preparing fuel for winter, herding animals, and caring for them. This experience was perfect to me, for immersing in local culture, as we'd often make mongolian food together, and were tasked with a wide variety of tasks which really helped me appreciate everything that needs to come together to keep a farm running. I learnt lots of skills and got to try many fun things ive always wanted to. Its hard work, but incredibly rewarding.

This was the most special experiences of my trip to Mongolia. I felt so welcomed from the beginning and loved getting to experience everyday life in the countryside, staying in a yurt, helping with the farm, and being surrounded by such beautiful landscapes. Most of all, I'm grateful for the people I met. Even with the language barrier, there was so much laughter, kindness, and connection. I would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone visiting Mongolia! ❤️

My experience with alta And his family has been absolutely amazing. I think that this is one of the most authentic ways to experience Mongolia and the home way of life. Despite the language barrier, communication was pretty easy. Alta and Minjee are incredibly kind and caring people who make you feel very welcome. Alta's kids are really cheerful, full of energy, and always down for a little adventure. Some days can be long and the work can occasionally be repetitive, but with some good and positive energy, I'm sure you'll enjoy it! I genuinely enjoyed every second of it.

This is not an easy volunteering experience. The work can be hard with long days, there is no running water or electricity, no bathroom or hot shower, and almost no internet. But that's the charm to it all. You truly get to experience a beautiful environment, getting to know Alta & Minj (the warmest people on earth), their loved ones, as well as other volunteers. You get to be a part of their everyday, seeing how hard they work, and feeling like you contribute to something important. All days were unique in their own way, all while focusing on where you are now, and enjoying the home.

It was a very special experience and I am grateful that I got to experience this lifestyle and culture with its amazing traditions! They were all really welcoming, it was really fun hanging out with the boys and Alda and Lisa in the beginning :)) I would recommend to see if there are other volunteers, I at least felt a bit lonely from time to time when Altaa was herding the animals throughout the day. The work would have been more fun if there had been someone to do it with.
Thank you everyone and hope to see you again <3

My time with Alta and his family was life changing. I got to fully immerse myself in a whole different culture and learn to adapt and get out of my comfort zone in nature. The work is challenging but there are many breaks in between and time to rest. I spent my time with many animals and learned a lot about farming and agriculture. I helped prepare the dinner some days & tasted a lot of unique Mongolian dishes. Altas children are a burst of energy and so fun to be around. We got to ride horses while herding the sheep and goats.I highly recommend this to someone who wants to disconnect online.

A very unique volunteer experience!
I went in February, the scenery is amazing but cold. Up to -35C at night.
Alta gave me warm working clothes. The work is challenging but makes your body and mind stronger.
The feb. routine is: wake up around 7am, breakfast, take cows out, give them breakfast, clean cow shit, give them water every 2nd day, eat lunch, give animals lunch, later get cows back inside, give dinner, eat dinner, keep fire going in yurt. (full day of participation in the families life but can take a day off if needed)
I felt welcomed, loved and made unique memories with the family!
