Ozzie Pozzie Backpackers YHA

We are a backpackers hostel in the vibrant town of Port Macquarie, which has gorgeous beaches where you can surf, chill at lovely cafes and visit our cute town center. It is also the home to the one and only koala hospital, which you can visit every day for free. Australia’s Billabong zoo is only 10km away.

The hostel is just a short distance from the town center, beaches, walking tracks, shops, restaurants etc. We are known for having a chilled and laid back working environment where everyone is treated as part of the family.

Life here gives you the chance to lead or take part in many activities such as surfing, kayaking, body boarding, coastal walks... But also heading to the pub for live music, nightly socials around the hostel and much more. You can just chill out next to the pool or relax in a hammock. There is something for everyone. We encourage our team to get involved and interact with backpackers and other guests in order to build a fun atmosphere.

Hi all, We're Mathilde and Sarah, two Frenchies who are so lucky to manage this beautiful hostel in Port Macquarie ! We have a super cool team by our side with Cedric our maintenance manager and Eli our kiwi receptionist. We're social and friendly and we love making our volunteers feel at home ! I really enjoyed the time that I spent at Ozzie pozzie backpackers, the hostel its self is clean and nice but quiet.
Mainly housekeeping but also clean/sort through the bins and gardening.
Worked three hours a day for one day off and six hours one day for 2 days off per week, this was unexpected but I didn’t mind too much. The work is easy and chill, there is always someone there if you have questions.
I wasn’t expecting the staff to sleep out back in little sheds which got very grassy and mosquitos, I was slightly mislead by the pictures (hostel rooms shown).

Ozzie Pozzie is a beautiful hostel, with a staff whom really cares about its up keep. Sara was really understanding and flexible when it came to any delays during my travel as well as me changing dates which I really appreciate. I was thrown off by the six hour shift, which was only communicated upon arrival. The other hostels I have worked at had felt more welcoming which was what I was expecting at Ozzie pozzie but I didn’t find that there. The beach is about a 30 minute walk but shops and cafes are only 15. I think Ozzie pozzie is really what you make of it, I had some great moments

I'll never forget my experience and THE PEOPLE here. Ozzie Pozzie is very social with a large communal kitchen, TV room, pool area + several lounging nooks, plus weekly pizza, trivia + game nights. My work hours consisted of 9:30 am - 12:30 pm 4 days/week, and 9:30 am - 12:30 pm + 2:30 - 5:30 pm 1 day/week, preparing rooms for new guests + cleaning common areas. I stayed in 4 bed cabin in the back staff section with other volunteers. You will likely find yourself spending the most time/hanging out with the other volunteers/staff and connecting with people from different backgrounds/cultures.<3

Volunteering at this hostel was my very first World Packers experience and it went beyond expectations. I was made to feel like I was apart of a family and all the staff members were so lovely to me during the entirety of my stay. The work was exactly as advertised and it was never too hard or went overtime. I was really happy with my experience and I got to meet the most amazing people along the way. Like-minded travellers, locals and the best staff. I especially loved all the activities hosted at the hostel. Trivia, games night and pizza night (my favourite). Thank you Ozzie Pozzie <3

Matild and Sarah are such great bosses. They’re incredible human beings and will work with you but you also just grow so much respect for them because you don’t want to let them down. Cedrick is also extremely sweet and wish I had gotten to get to know him better. Tom is an absolute goofball with the kindest soul. The work tasks are not hard, I did housekeeping from about 9:30am-12:30pm 4 times a week and then did that plus a late afternoon shift of other things once a week. You get 2 days off a week total. This is the place to build social connections!
