Canteiros Da Mata

Our space is fully integrated with nature, located in a small multicultural town on the southern coast of Bahia, 10 minutes on foot from the beach.
Volunteers will have a shared kitchen with total freedom to organize themselves and enjoy their stay.
We are open to knowledge exchange about organic farming at all stages, and we also want to get to know the background of each volunteer.

Our small team includes:
Eliana - who takes care of plant cultivation, from compost production, whether in the compost bin, the worm farm, or the fermented products, to harvesting and processing;
Ore - an architect who has lived in this paradise for more than three decades, responsible for the physical and landscaping structure of the place.
The space's activities have grown to such an extent that we need help, both in cultivation and processing as well as general maintenance.
We understand the need for volunteer hands to foster this space and we also want to share in the gatherings, very creative and joyful!

The accommodation structure includes:
- Pallet-based camping area.
- Communal kitchen equipped with a gas stove and a wood-fired stove, power outlets and Wi-Fi.
- Bathroom with a toilet and an electric shower.

Notices:
*We recommend volunteers bring insect repellent for mosquitoes, 3/4-length socks and comfortable clothing for working with the earth.

Volunteering at the site was an experience of a lot of connection with nature, this place is beautiful beyond words, in addition to the perfect location, cooking on the wood stove, making cuttings and following their growth was wonderful. I learned a lot about composting and how to care for the site. This place has a wonderfully beautiful energy. I loved meeting the hosts and exchanging ideas. It was a very rich experience. Gratitude! I would love to return at another time.

My experience at Canteiros da Mata was beautiful! The contact with the soil, I learned all the preparation of the bed for planting, composting, how to use the dry leaves in garden care, I got to know many different kinds of plants, I came into contact with the little creatures that live there and would appear from time to time (monkeys, squirrels and the cat Nina ) and we always lit the wood stove to cook and keep warm on cold days!😍
Thank you Eli and Ore for having me in your space! It was a very rewarding experience 💛☀️

Horrible experiences.
Another volunteer and I were at the site.
Bruna committed theft during volunteering and fled in the morning; when I questioned Ore about the thefts since some of my things had also been taken, he said there was nothing he could do,
so I decided to end my volunteering; Ore got angry because, according to him, he counted on me to travel and left the garden on my shoulders.
With that, he used the evaluation of her profile on mine, only to harm me and seek revenge.
Ore basically is looking for a caretaker with free labor for his space, a space that he only shows up once.

I loved every moment at the site; I learned a lot from Lucas and the volunteer Douglas about bioconstruction and other topics. The hosts Ore and his partner are absolutely lovely, although they couldn't be with the volunteers all the time, they were always willing to help. The site is a natural paradise aside from Arraial d’Ajuda, a very precious place with great social potential for the community. Thanks for everything ❤️

My days at the site were incredible, a pure connection with the land on an agroecological site. The hosts Ore and Eli are very dear, welcoming, and they take great care in everything they do. I had the opportunity to learn and produce a natural repellent, which made the experience even more special.
I found the initiative of separating waste excellent, showing the commitment to the planet in practice. Thank you for welcoming us so warmly and for taking care of nature with so much love.
