Castlehouse B+B
Castlehouse is in the third generation of my family and was originally built by my grand father, it is a house that oozes character and old world charm. My house
has a sea and mountain view and is just a five minute walk to the beach, Renvyle where I live is on the Wild Atlantic Way in north Connemara one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland. Castlehouse is located in a small village that has one small and one large shops, another village 1.5 km away has a couple of pubs and restaurants. Connemara National is 5 km away and Kylemore Abbey is 8 km. Any volunteer that comes will have the chance to improve there English and immerse themselves in Irish culture and our way of life, and you will have the chance to meet people from all over the world. Accommodation is a mixture of private and dorm where you will share with just one other person and this is only in peak season. Sorry lads but I only accept ladies as I don't have enough separate accommodation.You will be given three good meals a day and have two days a week off, you will also have the use of my mountain bike during your stay.
I also have a small sheep and Connemara pony farm and you are more than welcome to come along and see how things are done..
I have lived in Renvyle all my life apart from the five years I spent in boarding school. Cycling is my main hobby and the Renvyle area is well suited to it. I am a keen cook with an interest in experimenation I have been running a B+B since 1990 and I love meeting people from all over the world..I enjoy foreign travel and have visited most European countries. I am quiet an easy going person and I treat everybody with respect.

L'esperienza da John ha superato le aspettative. È stata la mia prima esperienza di volontariato e tutto è andato perfettamente. John mi ha accolto e mi ha fatto sentire come se fossi a casa già dal primo giorno! Ha preparato cene deliziose e mi ha raccontato un sacco di cose interessanti. Mi è anche capitato di aver bisogno di aiuto e lui si è subito preoccupato di aiutarmi. Il lavoro è semplice, non pesante e la zona della Connemara è mozzafiato. È un'esperienza che sono davvero contenta di aver fatto e non posso fare altro che consigliarla. Grazie di cuore John!

Es una buena experiencia! Jhon me ayudo mucho con mi inglés y tuvo mucha paciencia, te explica todo de manera minuciosa, letterfrack es maravilloso mas bien la zona es preciosa para salir y caminar y hacer senderismo, las tareas son bastante sencillas!

I have mixed feelings about this experience. The location is beautiful and tasks are easy, but you are isolated with no public transit, relying entirely on John. Crucially, accommodation for volunteers (mostly young women) is not ideal: rooms have no private bathroom, the indoor toilet only has a tiny sink, and to shower you must use a messy outdoor bathroom shared with the host. John is a good cook, though very work-focused. Meeting other WP girls made the stay enjoyable, but I wouldn't recommend this for a first-time volunteer unless you prioritize solitude over basic privacy and comfort.

I'm grateful to John for a memorable B&B stay. The area is lovely (beach, Diamond Hill), but isolated—no bus or taxi, just a local shop (open till 9pm). John was kind, cooked great meals, and gave lifts. The room was cozy with good Wi-Fi; the shared shower is very tight and camp-like. John runs it alone, so we worked overtime a few times to get work done. At least 3 volunteers are needed (ask in advance). Living with a host set in his ways is a true cultural immersion! It might not suit everyone, especially as a solo woman. I was very lucky to share my time with amazing Laura and Marjo. Thx!

My experience at castle house Bnb was so lovely! I felt right at home from the very start because the atmosphere is very cozy and friendly. John is such a kind and funny person and his Bnb is absolutely great. Also really loved John's bike that we were able to use because I really got to see some of the beautiful Area better:))) Unfortunately I did fall of the bike because I wasn't looking at the road but thankfully John and his sister took care of my after. I am so grateful to them! Thank you for all your help and care and especially the great experience!!!
