Double Attitude Orchard

Double Attitude Orchard is a genuine working family orchard — the kind of place where your help actually matters, and the skills you leave with are ones you'll carry for life.
You'll get hands-on experience with organic apple growing, seasonal harvest, making apple products from scratch, forest stewardship, gardening, and the daily rhythm of farm life — all set across 160 acres along the Ottawa River, in one of Quebec's most beautiful rural corners. The land itself is something else: hiking trails long enough to lose an afternoon in, deer and wild turkeys wandering through, and a quiet that reminds you what it feels like to actually slow down.
Off the clock, you'll eat well — really well, thanks to Beatrice's cooking — sleep in your own private room, and spend evenings with a family that genuinely enjoys having people from around the world at the table, often over a board game or two. On days off, bike the countryside, fish the river, wander the property, or head into Ottawa for the day.
Our reviews say it better than we can: volunteers tend to leave exited, more skilled, well-fed, and already wondering when they can come back. If you want something real, grounded, and warm — this is it.

We're Mihkel and Beatrice — an Estonian-Canadian couple who left city life behind in 2014 to follow a dream: building an organic apple orchard from scratch in the heart of rural Quebec. Mihkel is originally from Estonia and brings patience, practical knowledge, and a genuine passion for sustainable farming and forest stewardship. Beatrice is French Canadian, warm, and an incredible host who loves feeding people well — expect fresh bread, hearty home-cooked meals, and a kitchen full of good smells and good conversation. We have two young sons who have grown up with mud on their boots and apples in their hands, and our home reflects that — it's lively, real, and full of life.
Volunteers here are treated as part of the family, not as workers. You'll eat with us, spend evenings with us, and be genuinely welcomed into our daily rhythm. We take the time to teach everything properly, always explain the why behind the work, and make sure you feel valued and comfortable throughout your stay.

Thank you beautiful family for welcoming me like this in your peaceful property. I really enjoyed to help you with the apples and the different tasks: picking, cutting, making chips, jelly, labeling the products and more, I didn't have enough time, so have to come back soon :)
You gave free time to explore by bike, walk, it was sometimes difficult for me to take it as I saw you working a lot in the farm in this busy time! You were really careful to be sure I felt good in the room, the work and the meals. Thanks a lot, it was so inspiring to see and taste Beatrice's cooker talents!..

It was a wonderful experience at the farm with Mihkel, Beatrice, and their lovely kids. You're going to love Beatrice's meals, the conversations with Mihkel, and spending time playing with the children. I definitely recommend this experience. They will do everything they can to make your stay the best possible, offering great recommendations for beautiful places to visit near the farm. Communication is clear, the tasks are varied, and the working hours were exactly as agreed. You'll learn a lot about life on an organic the farm and enjoy being part of a welcoming family environment.

I had a great first Worldpackers experience here with Mihkel, Beatrice and their kids! They tried hard to make the work varied and were happy to explain tasks as much as needed. Beatrice is a very proficient cook and their house is lovely. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone seeking to gain organic production knowledge, interested in understanding the area and its locals or just looking for a unique experience!

We were so lucky to get to spend three weeks on this beautiful the farm. The Quebec countryside was breathtaking and a real escape from the city. Our daily tasks left us tired but accomplished, we learned lots of new skills and Beatrice's wonderful cooking and great conversation felt like a reward.

Staying at Mihkel & Beatrice was incredible, they are both so kind and generous, it felt like a home away from home, excellent place to reconnecting with nature, I enjoyed learning new skills at the apple the farm and even work there was a constant good time. Thanks!
