Farm Animal Rescue

Learn about animals that have been rescued from commercial food industry. We practice individual animal care and not herd health such as you would find in industry.

The farm is located in a village that has no public transport. The village is one mile away
(25 minute walk) and has a grocery store, cafes, post office and pub. Woolworths delivery groceries to the farm.

There is a swimming pool at the sanctuary and lots of attractive outdoor spots for reading or communing with the animals.

Volunteers share a two bedroom bungalow with other volunteers. Our volunteers are absolutely committed to the well-being of the sanctuary animals and whatever the animals need to be healthy and happy. Work is 3.5 days a week, a full day includes dawn and dusk. There are multiple extended breaks throughout the day between tasks. Training typically takes around two weeks through a managed process that lets you slowly become familiar with all of the different jobs. Work is dirty, tiring, and involves a lot of poo. Volunteers must to be able to lift 25 kgs and must be cautiously confident around large animals. You will generally work in a team of two.

My time at Farm Animal Rescue was nothing short of amazing, the experience and volunteer work was exactly what I had hoped to do and I felt the accomodations and work were exactly as described. I felt that the host Brad really supported myself and the other volunteers and always communicated what needed to be done very clearly and respectfully. The work is long and you get definetly get your hands dirty, but at the end of the day you get this amazing feeling of accomplishment and fulfillment. The only thing I wish was different is that I could have stayed forever! 10/10 would recommend!

I loved my time here, I felt settled in and welcomed really quickly. The work was good fun and I really enjoyed working with the animals, they all have funny personalities and working with these lovely animals was a treat. The animals are all really well cared for and receive the best care. I really enjoyed my time here and I felt like I helped make a difference looking after these animals.

Volunteering with F.A.R was an incredible experience I will forever treasure!
Getting to know the animals, learning about their care and histories and the effects of the industry.
Brad was an amazing host, very informative, always willing to answer questions, give us lifts to town/train station and generally look out for you during your stay.
The hours are long but there’s lots of breaks and the work was fun and v rewarding!
It was a lovely reset for me and such a special experience I would recommend to everyone!

It was just great having Maddie at the sanctuary, Maddie's positive attitude and dedication to the sanctuary just made for a terrific time all round.
Just to clarify however that we are very happy to drop people at the station or to town if we need to go there for sanctuary business, but we aren't able to take people places any other time. This may or may not fit with your times and rostered days off.
We happily collect at the start of your stay at a time that works for you, and the same with the end of the stay, but please note we cannot provide transport at any other time, unless we happen to be heading in that direction and it works with your availability.
The village is a 20 minute walk for the farm and has a grocery store, cafes and bars. For most of your stay, this will be your piece of rural paradise!

My experience at farm animal rescue was very nice, i fell in love with all of the animals there. Also, it‘s very nice to have other volunteers live with you whom you can connect to.
I would recommend the experience if you are looking for nature and animal care.
Know that the days are pretty long which can be hard sometimes but you do have a lot of breaks and nice days off. :)
