Finca Los Pinos

Aranjuez has a university with students, great nightlife, tapas and also historic reference. The Aranjuez Cultural Landscape is a singular entity of complex and historic relationships between nature and human activity, the sinuous watercourses of the rivers and the geometrical design of the landscape, urban and rural life, and between the forest wildlife and the refined architecture.

Aranjuez bears witness to various cultural exchanges over a span of time that had a significant influence in the development of its landmarks and the creation of its landscape, thereby becoming a model for its culture's use of its territory. The process of transformation dates back to the reign of Philip II when, with the influence of the Crown and the wealth of nature as the determining elements, Aranjuez was established as a Real Sitio (Royal Site) in the sixteenth century. The Royal Commands of Ferdinand VI, Charles II, and Isabella II marked its evolution in the 18th and 19th centuries. This landscape survived during the 20th century when it was opened for the enjoyment of the public.

The property comprises of diverse elements that make up the different zones: historic vegetable gardens, tree-lined avenues and groves (Legamarejo, Picotajo, El Rebollo), the Palace and ornamental gardens (the Prince’s, the Island, the Parterre, the King’s and Isabella II’s gardens) and the 18th century historic town centre. The conceptual combination of these zones creates a series of landscapes that, together, comprise the Aranjuez Cultural Landscape. These include the water landscape (rivers, ponds, dams and ditches), the agricultural landscape (orchards and nurseries, stock-breeding farms, and meadows), the delectable landscape for leisure (ornamental gardens), the ordered landscape (the geometry of the streets and squares that shape the natural terrain), and the constructed landscape (the palace, the planned town, the roads, and agricultural buildings).

Toledo another great location is only 50 km away and was once the capital of Spain with the famous landscape reference from Don Quixote. Madrid city lifestyle knows international for it football team Real Madrid allows you to easily and quickly see art, museums and modern lifestyle which contrasts with the tranquillity of being on the ranch in Aranjuez. There are trains and buses running continuously. There are also great possibilities to travel with a special student or young transport pass which covers the whole community of Madrid for under 30 euros a month.

We ourselves are volunteers in Scouts. We have traveled all around the world and have helped in many projects. Our volunteering experiences are like being at home, with the opportunity to enjoy our surroundings, home, and nearby areas.

Staying at the farm was very nice, and at the same time whirlwind-like. Communication remains a skill to continue developing on both sides (of volunteering and of the hosts). The tasks aren’t 100% instructional since there may be other volunteers at the moment you are there, so they can vary with housework, gardening, or whatever is required. They are very flexible with the schedules and also welcome you into the family. It’s important to note that this is a family setting, so the stress and responsibilities that Joseph and Anca carry can be significant. Return to girl.

As much as i would have loved to leave a 5-star review, i can't honestly do that. thank you to joseph and anca for opening your home to me and making separate meals for me since i don't eat pork. i really enjoyed the homemade food, their sweet children, and the week of summer camp with the kids. however, i didn't appreciate the way i and some of the other worldpackers were spoken to, and there were several miscommunications throughout the stay. i also found it disrespectful to overhear conversations about us as volunteers between the hosts. overall, it wasn't the worst but not the best.

It was an incredible experience volunteering for this family. The position was half the time teaching and homeschooling the kids and gardening on the property the other half. Hours are 9am-2pm with lunch with the family around 230pm usually, they make good food. It's about a hour train or bus to Madrid, which is fun to visit when you have time and Aranjuez is a really cute town. The kids are really smart and committed to learning and it was fun to come up with lessons for them.

Muchas gracias Joseph, Anca, Joe, Emma & Rebeca; I had a great cultural experience staying in your home! The kids are sweet, curious and bright, making homeschooling a joy (with a few discussions now and then of course!). Joseph and Anca are very attentive and made me feel part of the family. I worked Mon-Fri from 9 am-2 pm and could easily combine the work with online tutoring. The location near Aranjuez is beautiful, with opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, explore local history and visit Madrid. It's also a great place for practicing Spanish since Joseph and Anca have a lot of patience.

It has been a great and rewarding experience. Each week was a great challenge achieved, and being able to share the children's joy and sorrows was tremendously happy. The family provides everything necessary and more to ensure that you are calm and that each day of volunteering is enjoyable. The colleagues are very helpful with teamwork, and the experience of working with children was a real challenge. I highly recommend this volunteer program; you'll love it.
