i had a great experience with Gay Ellen, Alex, and the rest of the team while i was in fairbanks! the work was fair and clearly communicated. Gay Ellen was flexible & i was able to complete longer hours so i could do excursions the other days. it was great to meet the other folks staying in the hostel and to see some of the sights that Alaska has to offer :)

It was a amazing experience, Gay Ellen kept me informed about the local events, was kind enough to offer a crepe at her store at the farmers market. Everyone I met over there was just so friendly and accomodative. Recommeded if you are looking to connect wth nature. I learnt how to paint a garage as well.

This was my first volunteer job. I had so much fun with the guests and the other volunteers. We shared responsibilities in the hostel and talked a lot about Fairbanks, activities to do, or simply about the differences between our native cultures. Everything I learned from them was such a relief for me. I didn't have any problems with anyone, and the housekeeping activities were easy.

I had a great experience volunteering at the glacier house. The host as well as Alex were kind and welcoming, and I really appreciated the flexible hours. Just be proactive with communication since the schedule is very flexible. Overall, I'd recommend this experience:)

I found Glacier House Hostel after my seasonal job at Mt. McKinley Lodge, and it became the perfect in-between stay. Fairbanks amazed me with snow, –30°F temps, and walking on the frozen Chena River. Duties like welcoming guests, giving tours, remaking beds, and cleaning are easy, with flexibility so you have time to hike scenic trails, explore Pioneer Park, visit the pipeline, or join trips like the Caston Glacier Ice Cave. The hosts, Gay Ellen and Clarence, are welcoming, and Alex made arrival smooth with rides and tours.
