Keelung Walk

Keelung Walk is a community-based cultural project rooted in Keelung, Taiwan.
We work on cultural documentation, walking tours, exhibitions, publications, and digital storytelling to explore the city beyond a tourist perspective.

Volunteers here are collaborators, not guests. You will be involved in real projects that are currently in progress, working alongside our team and local partners.

Additionally, documenting oral history will allow you to preserve the incredible experiences of locals, passing these stories on to future generations. By collaborating with community associations, you will help organize exhibitions and events that illuminate Keelung’s cultural diversity, promoting the culture and art that make the city even more special!

Be part of this unique journey and make a difference in the community by connecting with incredible people and experiencing the essence of Keelung!

Keelung is a port city with frequent rain, especially from autumn to winter.
Our space is located near a busy road and a traditional market.
Projects change week by week, and flexibility is essential.
Please apply only if you are comfortable with shared living, uncertainty, and real-world teamwork.

The project for a the project is a great opportunity to really dive in the culture of Taiwan and especially the project! You mostly work independently and the tasks are often assigned based on your personal interests and strengths. The city is very charming with a lot of culture and scenic places all around.

Experience: 5/5. the project is an awesome city and the host is very fair with regards to the workload and autonomy. Accomodation: 3/5. The apartment is very well located, within walking distance of all the cool things in the project. The kitchen, wifi and washing machine are all fully functionnal. However the rooms are small and do not lock, so I would recommend traveling light. Furthermore, the bathrooms and windows need work.

I've been volunteering around South east Asia for a little while. This place is very good! The apartment is spacious. Mila is doing a great job supporting her rainy city. The tasks are clear and enjoyable. It is a great opportunity to discover a less touristy part of Taiwan. Many things to see in the city and around it. From art to nature. From temples to second hands shop. Many lovely cute cafes. And the project and discover all the little lanes / alleyways. And the food everywhere in the city is pretty good and delicious!! Recommended. Highly.

I had a great time at KFAW! Mila is a very kind and considerate host and the work was easy and reasonable. KFAW is very willing to work w/ volunteers to bring out their strengths and interests so it helps to come in with a creative mindset and take initiative. Definitely come prepared for rain and grey skies, but we had beautiful sunny days as well. There's lots of great hikes in the area if you're willing to explore and the project a lot! It's an easy bus ride to Taipei and lots of other interesting sites in the area and the schedule is flexible so you'll have lots of time for day trips.
