Laguamanda

We are a developing community located in a rural area just 4 km from the city of Colonia del Sacramento (UNESCO World Heritage Site) that has a wide coastline with white-sand beaches on the Río de La Plata.
We grow a garden for self-consumption, we have farm animals (geese, chickens, sheep, horses), an edible forest, and we care for a native monte on the banks of the La Caballada stream. Our current buildings are all bioconstruction and we are in the process of expanding them.
For people who enjoy field activities and have some experience in them, they will be able to enjoy a beautiful space close to nature.

At the moment we permanently inhabit four people: Igor (67), Lidia (67) and Varinia (62). All of us live and work exclusively in our space. Each one is responsible for some area, but we share the tasks in general.
Our diet is omnivorous (we accept vegetarians, not vegans) and we always share lunches among all.
The space for the volunteers' overnight stay is a room with bunk beds, the photos of which we attach. The bathroom is shared and is located in the common house about 15 meters from that lodging. The kitchen of the common house will be available for the preparation of meals outside lunch, for which there is a person in charge.
We will provide volunteers, in addition to lunch, the ingredients for their other meals of the day.
All of us contribute to the same daily schedule of activities: 5 hours and a half from Monday to Friday and 4 hours and a half on Saturdays. Routinely the afternoons are free and one full day a week for personal activities. It is necessary to add for those who do not have knowledge of rural life that some tasks are subject to the demands that nature itself requires. That implies there will be moments when small tasks outside the expressed regime must necessarily be fulfilled.
We have bicycles available for volunteers and we are 700 meters from National Route 21, from which there is public transport to Colonia and other parts of the country.

Laguamanda, our first volunteer experience, left us with a very positive experience.
They welcomed us very warmly.
Igor and Varinia picked us up at the terminal, and took us to Laguamanda.
We stayed in a small travel trailer; perhaps the mattress could be improved, since it didn't have one, and at times you could feel the wood of the 'bed'. Still, we managed with some cushions that were there.
The stay was very nice; we are very grateful to Lidia for her lunches and her kindness!
The work was simple.
Thank you very much for having us!!!🙌🏼✨️

Igor, Varinia and Lidia made our experience in the community feel like being with family. We shared meals, stories, and a way of seeing life from the community. The exchange hours are respected, and they also provide you with work clothes and guide you and accompany you with the tasks. We arrived in winter, but we had a stove, a bed heater, quilts, and hot water. The bathroom is a little far away, but that's the only thing. We leave with the intention of returning, to share and enjoy, not only of the place but of the community. Thank you for everything, we carry you in our hearts 💓💓!

Getting to know Igor, Varinia, and Lidia was a wonderful experience. They treated us like family. We especially highlight Igor for his outlook on life and his way with people. With him you can talk and learn a lot. A hug to all three of them! The work was straightforward; they respect the schedules and don't require tasks that are too heavy. They try to provide clothing and work tools. A calm and highly recommended experience.

My experience in the community was sensational! Lidia, Vari and Igor, the hosts, are wonderful people and welcomed me as part of the family. The farm is simply amazing, it has a huge area to explore, there are sheep, chickens, horses, geese, dogs and the kitten Antonieta who were part of our care routine in addition to other wild species that can be seen around. The food is an experience in itself, everything done with a lot of care and respect, everything delicious. A very calm routine. I will miss the daily exchanges and learnings, I highly recommend it.

The Laguamanda experience was very enriching. In that place, we are introduced and immersed in the concept of community, and it is possible to learn a lot about sustainability as well. All the hosts are receptive and available to teach. Regarding the volunteers' accommodations, I believe there should be photos here on the platform, and they could be improved and include a bathroom or a washbasin. In the evening and during the cold season, this was a point of difficulty for me. The place is beautiful and ideal for anyone looking to connect with nature.
