Matauri Bay Farm

Teresa and Pierre, with their respective talents as an artist and gardener, made the deliberate choice to leave the bustling city behind and return to the serene countryside. Their shared endeavor now revolves around the devoted restoration of this piece of land. As well-traveled, open-minded individuals, they are wholeheartedly committed to leading a lifestyle that prioritizes sustainability to the best of their abilities. Their environmental consciousness is not only a personal commitment but also a shared endeavor, especially as they navigate the challenges of raising a family of teenage kids. The deep affection they hold for their farm is evident in the joy they derive from each day, relishing the pleasure of sharing their rural haven.

Volunteers are expected to be part of our family. We share cooking and meals around the dinner table, reside in a generously spacious home, and offer dedicated volunteer bedrooms. It's advantageous to have your own transportation, as it allows you the freedom to explore our stunning coastline and picturesque countryside, venturing beyond our immediate surroundings.

My stay with Teresa and Pierre was the best way to begin my working holiday here in Aotearoa/New Zealand. the farm and the nearby the farm of Islands region is stunning with an unending amount of beaches and beautiful forest and farm land. The work was diverse ranging from caring for chickens to planting a wide range of fruits and veggies and harvesting them, general maintenance and yard work, tree planting and removing invasive plants and a great opportunity to meet a local family and learn more about the Māori and settler background of the region and the rich history of the Northland area!

I couldn't have asked for a better stay, truly. P & T really take the time to make sure that you are comfortable and fulfilled, which makes you feel like part of the family. Tasks/jobs were all simple, self-explanatory, and if I did need help, it was always given. Accommodation was great, food was delicious, and I was always included in any family activities that were happening. I couldn't be more grateful for this experience. Thank you, hope to cross paths again!

It was a truly magical experience staying with this beautiful family! The location is other-worldly gorgeous, and the hosts themselves are a bundle of creative joy. The work I was doing was meaningful and very enjoyable. I got to connect with nature and animals everyday. It felt effortless to become part of their family and their day-to-day, and I also felt a great deal of respect for when I needed alone time. A wonderful, trusting, balanced, loving atmosphere. I hope I get to see them again <3
