Palapa Eco Project

We just have started the building of the eco project early 2022. We have a 3500m2 land in El Transito, Nicaragua.
We have created 3 wood buildings which have ocean views. The buildings have no walls to offer a different experience and to connect with nature. It’s an eco project focused on natural building and permaculture, 300 meters from an amazing uncrowded surf spot. We work towards a DIY philosophy and strive to balance work, play, personal time and communication - generating an overall community of well-being.

- Learn natural building & permaculture for the construction of the infrastructures, furnitures and gardening
- Build a community with the volunteers around an ecology project
- Develop different community projects for the locals around sports (e.g. football, basketball)

Please contact us by email or phone prior to your arrival. This is so we can check our schedule and for you to get all the term, conditions and important information !!

I had a great experience in Palapa. There is a very nice sense of community, the work in total hands-on type, which is fun for me, and the beach is great for surfing. It is nice to see the progress each day. Its good to be aware that there is no luxury, since its a hostel in construction. Definitely recommended though!

Great time away from home. I have fallen in love with el Transito. The work at Palapa was a mix of all types of things. Heavy lifting, crafting dry toilets, doing a little electrical work and even helping lay the stone for the kitchen floor. The hours are not long, but just be prepared to go camping. While there is a shower, small kitchen and mini fridge get in the mind set of camping. Bring everything you would need for a few weeks away in the mountains. Bring plenty of cash, peanut butter if you’re an avid eater like I am and something for comfort. Nights can be noisy but you get use to it

I had two great weeks at the palapa hostel. We worked as a community and had always fun. El transito in general is also a great place to be.
I can recomment the whole experience!

I had a very great time at the Palapa hostel and really enjoyed my stay. The only thing was that at the time I was there, there were not that much other volunteers but Jerome always asked if we want to join him or do something together. He is super nice and funny and we a had a lot of really good conversations. Some day I definitely will come back and want to see how the project has developed. It was a very good experience where I learned a lot and I am very thankful for. Thank you very much Jerome for always helping, taking care and just a great time!
