Pico Dogs
Volunteering at Pico Dogs means becoming part of a heartfelt mission to transform the lives of abandoned and elderly dogs on Pico Island. Nestled in the Azores, our rescue center offers a peaceful, nature-rich environment where volunteers can make a tangible difference—whether by helping socialize dogs, assisting with daily care, or supporting sterilization and education campaigns.
You’ll be immersed in a community that values kindness, sustainability, and animal welfare. A volunteer will love experiencing the raw beauty of Pico Island—volcano hikes, whale watching, and ocean adventures are just around the corner. It’s not just volunteering—it’s soul-nourishing work in one of the most stunning corners of the world.
Pico Dogs was founded by Dania Tesei, a passionate animal advocate and marine biologist who also runs CW Azores, a whale watching and diving center committed to conservation and education. Dania’s team is a blend of locals and international collaborators, all united by a love for animals and a deep respect for nature.
Volunteers are welcomed as part of the family. You’ll be treated with warmth, respect, and gratitude. Expect clear guidance, meaningful tasks, and plenty of opportunities to learn—whether it’s about dog behavior, local culture, or marine life. We believe in mutual exchange: your time and energy are valued, and in return, we offer an unforgettable experience rooted in purpose and connection.
