ProtectMe

Our volunteers come from all over the world, and speak several languages here, including English, Italian, and Albanian. There’s a lot of experience in animal care and nonprofit work, and everyone is happy to share about their culture.

The shelter was built from the ground up by Liljana as the first private animal shelter in Albania. You will enjoy the contact with dogs and cats and the energy in this place we call Paradise. We will be very happy that you will be part of realizing our mission.

Albania is a discovered country and full of history. Beyond the work, this is a great place for cultural exchange. The shelter is in the perfect place to access the city and the surrounding areas. We will be able to point you to places where you can experience Albanian culture, traditions, food, and daily life.

“Bread, Salt, and Heart” - the Albanian slogan for loyalty and hospitality

This is a non-profit organization (NGO) founded in 2013 by ing. Liljana and her family in Vlora, Albania, with the mission of ensuring the protection, welfare, and education of animals, primarily stray dogs and cats.

Liljana founded the organization together with her family, beginning by rescuing stray animals and caring for them alongside her children. What started as a small family effort on their own property has grown into a lifelong mission. To this day, her family remains the heart and main supporters of the animals here

Our team is made up of six dedicated people: Liljana our CEO, our shelter worker, kennel keeper, intern, shelter maintenance technician, and transport assistant for our animals.

For over a decade, we have been working to build a culture of respect, care, and coexistence between people and animals, becoming a strong voice for their rights and wellbeing.

my experience at protect me was amazing. I was the only volunteer there and they made the workload still very doable. Lily was a sweetheart. There was a language barrier which made things difficult sometimes but very easy to get past it. The dogs were all amazing and the house is very comfortable. thank you to Liliana for making this experience possible!

I loved the experience at the shelter. It was my first time volunteering and I loved it. The work is very simple and it's in the morning, so it leaves you the rest of the day free to enjoy the house and the city. The dogs are super good and all they want is affection. Lili, the lady who works there every day, is very nice and very hardworking; it can be difficult to communicate at times because she only speaks Albanian, but you find a way to communicate.

I loved my experience at the Dog shelter :) The dogs were really nice and also the host Liljana is a really kind hearted person. You dont have many work hours and have a lot time for yourself which is good. It is a bit confusing where to go when you arrive at the shelter but other than that everything else was good :)) if you have any questions you can write me

This was the most heartwarming and fulfilling volunteer experience. All the pups are super sweet. I really loved talking with Liljana about the shelter and her vision for the future. You can really see the heart and soul that goes into this place. At times it can be tricky to follow instructions if you're an English speaker, you just need to be patient and willing to be a little bit creative with communication. Thank you for everything Liljana, I hope to return again one day 💛

Visiting Protect Me is a deeply meaningful experience that I cannot recommend enough. It is a wonderful place run by passionate people dedicated to doing genuine good, and there is always plenty of work to be done. The dogs will steal your heart from the moment you arrive, making it so hard to say goodbye when it is time to leave! I wouldn't hesitate for a second to go back. If you ever visit, please give all the sweet dogs, along with Loreta, Lili, and Liljana, a huge hug from me!
