Our Story: From a Homeless Boy to a Founder
By Joseph Mbwaga, Founder & President

"I know firsthand how far a little generosity can go for someone in a desperate situation."

A Journey of Survival
At just 15 years old, following years of hardship and neglect, I made the difficult decision to leave my home in Igamba Village in search of hope and a better future. My journey was defined by survival—scavenging for food in trash piles and sleeping under the stars. Eventually, I arrived in Kibaha, hitching a ride on the roof of a livestock transport train.

A Gift of Music & A Life-Changing Encounter
In Kibaha, I used my passion for music to find shelter, landing a role as a church pianist. In exchange, the church allowed me to sleep on the pews during the week. One Sunday, my life changed forever when I met a touring Australian man. Moving by my story, he generously offered to sponsor my secondary education.

Overcoming Adversity
Tragedy struck when my sponsor was diagnosed with cancer and could no longer afford my school fees. Though I was heartbroken and unable to graduate, I refused to give up. I chose to become self-taught, mastering both the English language and computer hardware repair through sheer determination.

Paying It Forward: The Birth of PWM Family
Against the odds, I successfully built and operated an internet cafe and computer repair center in Kibaha, where I now reside with my beautiful family. However, my heart never left the vulnerable children of my birthplace. I felt a powerful calling to return to Igamba Village and lift up orphans, just as that generous stranger once lifted me.

This calling led to the birth of our mission, which has evolved into the Prosperity Wealth Masters Family Organization (PWM Family), officially registered as a Tanzanian NGO (Reg: 00NGO/R/8068).

Our Vision Moving Forward
With your hands, your heart, and your generosity, we aim to expand our reach to accommodate and empower as many vulnerable children as possible in Igamba Village and the surrounding regions. Together, we can rewrite their stories, just as mine was rewritten.

Join us, and let’s build this future together! 🙌🌍💙

My stay in Kibaha with Joseph and his family was amazing. Joseph his wife Flora and two kids Ruthy and Ricke were very welcoming. We always had a good fun together, playing and learning new things. Flora is fantastic cook and I have learned how to prepare local dishes as well. Kids in Rafbeg Daycare centre are very nice. I was teaching them English and Mathematics. They are very grateful and so lovely. Happy for every little thing. I can highly recommend this experience if you want to do something good for the kids and community and if you want to experience the real African lifestyle. 😊🛖🌴

Our stay with Joseph was a great local experience. He and his family are lovely and was always engaged in accommodating us well and made us feel save and welcome. His kids are amazing as well! The family took us to their farm, the nearby Masai (non-tourist) village and the bigger towns close by. Unfortunately, we our stay wasn't timed well as we came to kibaha during the school holidays, so there were no teaching tasks for the moment. (So maybe discuss this with Joseph before your stay.)

My volunteering experience in Tanzania was made absolutely unforgettable by Jospeh & his loving family. They genuinely cared about my well-being & especially safety. During the initial days of my stay, they gave me the time & space I needed to adjust to the new environment. I had the pleasure of working with children at the daycare & patients at the hospital. I must mention the outstanding efforts of Flora, my host's wife, she went above and beyond to ensure my comfort & happiness during my stay. Overall, the connections I formed were heartwarming, and I will always cherish the memories.
