Restauras Farm

EXPERIENCE

Welcome to Restauras, the farm.

My name is Douglas, I am Brazilian, and I am the father of four children who currently live in different parts of the world. I've lived in Canada, USA and over 12 years in England.
In 2022, after many years working in IT industry, I decided to change my lifestyle, seeking a simpler, rural life in Brazil.

Restauras is my farm, located near Ibaiti, in the countryside of Paraná State. Day by day, I work in all areas of the land, aiming to create a place for gathering and, little by little, achieving a sustainable way of operation.

Escape the city and immerse yourself in the serene and vibrant life at the farm! Nestled in the picturesque countryside, there is a charming chalet available with a kitchen, living room, bathroom, and a bedroom. Additionally, there are three other bedrooms in my own house and a whole leisure area to integrate the volunteers.

TASKS & ROUTINE

I intend for volunteers to stay for at least one week, working 5 days and resting 2, with shifts of 3 to 4 hours per day.

Ongoing projects:

• Garden: Construction, maintenance, and care.
• Construction: Assisting with the building of a wooden shed for tool storage. Remodeling a wooden cabin.
• Organic Vegetable Garden: Maintenance and organization of external spaces to grow and harvest broccoli, lettuce, parsley, chives, onions, carrots, cauliflower, ginger, turmeric, cassava, and more. I aim to expand the garden and implement an Agroforestry system.
• Greenhouses: Participate in organic tomato cultivation, with plans to expand to two more greenhouses.
• Animal care: Feeding and supporting their well-being.
• Natural Springs: Enjoy pure, gravity-fed water for drinking, animal care, and irrigation. Only our greenhouse uses a pump for drip irrigation.

I would also like to continue enriching this space with volunteer proposals, such as:

• Art and decoration for the guest house.
• Self-sustaining construction of a water cistern, a biodigester for waste treatment and gas generation, and a photovoltaic solar system.
• Permaculture: building a clay house.

Why Join Us?

• Relaxed Atmosphere: Enjoy a fun, flexible, and self-manageable environment with guidance and support.
• Stress-Free Living: Embrace the tranquility of country life, far from the hustle and bustle of the city.
• Learning Opportunities: Gain hands-on experience in sustainable farming, permaculture, eco-trails, agroforestry, and bioconstruction. Don't worry if you are a beginner, we can teach and support you in all the different activities that involve this life here.

Doug is a really lovely person!
The volunteering is perfect for a "back to the roots" experience.
Get ready for lots of healthy cooking with very basic, natural ingredients.
The closed town is only reachable by car so it's pur idyllic und landscape. The work is rather physical so good sleep is guaranteed!
Unfortunately it is a little less work with animals then expected as the cows and horses do not need any care. Bonus points though for the sweetes cat ever ;))

Doug is a fantastic, super smart guy with interesting practices & perspectives to share! His project is fascinating with a beautiful community & self sustaining vision. The farm has evolved a fair bit since the posting we agreed to, there is a cat, but no other animals that you help with. Most of the work we did was based in the deep jungle, creating sustainable water solutions, we also did all the cooking & cleaning. When Doug was around it was great, but due to other responsibility particularly selling the tomatoes he often wasn't home, and tasks were sometimes not clearly established.

Douglas is an amazing person! We found out we have a lot in common, which made the whole experience even better than I expected. He's flexible with schedules and activities, and really attentive to our needs, always making sure we're doing well. I learned a lot about how things work on the farm and in the countryside. My tasks were pretty diverse, which made the experience even more meaningful. I definitely hope to keep our friendship going beyond the program. It was easily one of the best experiences I've ever had.
