Salty Dogs Hostel

Hola dreamers, wanderers, and wave chasers!
We’re three friends turning an old property into a barefoot surf hostel just steps from the ocean — 50 metres from Cocal wave, 5 minutes from Punta Roca, and 10 minutes from Sunzal. Nestled in Playa Cocal, this hidden corner of El Salvador is where sunsets melt into the sea and life moves to the rhythm of the tide.

Right now, we’re in the middle of creating something special — a place for travelers, surfers, and free spirits to gather, share stories, and live simply. We’re looking for easygoing souls who don’t mind a bit of sweat, some sand between their toes, and a few paint splatters along the way.

What you’ll help with:
🌿 Gardening and bringing our little jungle to life
🎨 Painting, fixing, and helping shape the vibe of the space
🪚 Lending a hand to our local builders when needed
💡 Sharing your creativity, ideas, and energy — we love that stuff

What you’ll get in return:
🍌 Free breakfast and coffee to fuel your mornings
🛏️ A comfy bed in our evolving surf haven
📶 Free WiFi when you need to reconnect
🏄 Free use of surfboards — the waves are calling!

We keep it simple: 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, with plenty of time to surf, chill, or explore the coast.

If you’re looking for a place where you can wake up to the sound of waves, get your hands dirty creating something meaningful, and join a small crew building their dream — come ride this wave with us.

We’re three friends who swapped routine for palm trees and saltwater — building our dream hostel just steps from the waves. Our local crew keeps the vibe real: smiles, music, and a “go-with-the-flow” attitude that makes everyone feel like family.

Volunteers are treated like travel buddies, Expect laughter, sunsets, good food, and plenty of freedom — this place is about connection, creativity, and living simply by the sea.

Truly WONDERFUL! I originally signed up for 3 weeks but extended for a 4th because I had such a great experience. Ryan is chill, layed-back, but also keeps the hostel running well. I met so many wonderful volunteers, guests & locals while volunteering there! I appreciated that it was a bit outside of the hustle-and-bustle of El Tunco, but still close enough to parties, good food & sandy beaches like San Blas. 10/10 would recommend!

An incredible experience at this new hotel that opened a short time ago. A friendly, family-like, chill atmosphere. I highly recommend the volunteer experience at this beachfront hotel with Sunrise and Sunset, surfing…

Loved my experience working at the hostel. Was given a good range of task and freedom to be myself and contribute to the opening of the hostel. The team was great and I made some really cool friends and had great experiences with the hostel. The facility shaped up to be really nice and it was cool to be able to swim in the pool and at the beach regularly for my days. The community vibe at the hostel is great

The team at the hostel were amazing to work alongside. Extremely inclusive and clear about their direction. The provide a healthy balance between the volunteering tasks and making sure you enjoy your time at the hostel and exploring the area.

I volunteered at the hostel for two weeks and I recommend it 100%! Ryan and Jimmy, as well as the rest of the volunteers were all very welcoming and friendly, which made the work itself really fun. I started volunteering before the opening of the hostel so the work will be different from now on. However, all of the shifts are pretty pleasant and leave plenty of time to enjoy the beach, meet people and explore the area. Will for sure try my best to go back for some time in the near future:)
