Sandsböla

Experience the relaxed way of life in Sweden. Learn about craftmanship, gardening, fishing and Swedish and German culture. Learn how to bake your bread and how to brew your beer. Learn about picking mushrooms and wild berries. Enjoy our good homemade food every day.

We are a family of four, to adults and two boys. We are easy going people and try to live a partly self sufficiant life. For us it's important that both parts - hosts and volunteers - have the feeling they did benefit from their stay. We are looking forward to cultural exchange with people from all over the world, and we'd like to have volunteers from as many different countries as possible.

Was a incredible experience, they are very welcoming and nice family. I learned a lot about permaculture, local food and their country life. Hein and Astrid are fantastic host, they were very kind, and always listened to me when I needed something.
Their country life is wonderful, every day there is something different and entertaining to do. They have a lot of patience and encouragement to explain the processes of the field.
Thanks very much.

Staying at Sandböla was a truly incredible experience. Hein and Astrid made me feel so welcome and part of the family. They are very relaxed with how much you do and it was all really enjoyable and stress-free work. For me this involved chopping firewood, some gardening and working with timber and some handheld tools and much more. Their communication was really good and the food they prepared was some of the best I’ve ever had. The activities we did like kayaking and ice hockey games were amazing and I’d highly recommend for those wanting to experience Sweden!

Don't go. It's extremely expensive and difficult to get there. They live in the forest, with no neighbors. Misleading photos. To sleep, they gave us a trailer, without a bathroom, with the possibility of going out at night in the dark, through the forest to use the bathroom in their house. 16 hours from the airport to the house and after dinner at 10:30 pm, they told us to leave because our experience wouldn't work because our English is basic and they wouldn't waste their time with a translator. But when we signed up, we informed them and they accepted. We lost more than 700€. irresponsible

Unfortunately, we were forced to send Auri and her partner away. In all the years we have been hosting, this has never happened to us before.

Both of them pointed out that their English is not that good and that they often use the translator to help them, but they stated that they have basic English or even intermediate English. That would not have been a problem for us, but unfortunately they cannot speak any English at all and could not understand even the simplest words and sentences.

This communication barrier led to difficulties even before they arrived when they sent us a message 2 days before the agreed date that they were on their way to us. However, we were not at home that weekend, so we tried to help and organize a place to stay for one night, and so we picked them up the next day as soon as we got home.

No two days are the same for us, the work varies and in the situation we are in right now it is simply impossible to do everything exclusively via translator. We are also renovating the house and because the construction site is being used with machines, we have to be able to give short instructions quickly and verbally and we have to be sure that they are understood.

In summer, the camper right by the lake is always the most popular accommodation of all. You have your own little private kingdom there even though the camper is in our garden and only 15 meters from the house.

I am sure that the two of them are very nice people and certainly good volunteers and I regret that we had no choice but to send them away. But this situation would never have arisen if they had been honest. If we had known that neither of them really understood a word of English, we would never have invited them to our place.

My experience at sandsböla was very educational and our hosts made a lot of effort to ensure we were immersed in the culture. They accommodated our needs very well and it was thoroughly enjoyable. I would recommend this experience to anyone! :)

Hein and Astrid at the farm made us feel extremely welcome as soon as we arrived! Each day was filled with lessons and a great atmosphere. We were able to communicate our needs and felt comfortable around the house. There’s lots to do and we enjoyed every second of our time with them. Would absolutely love to return 😁
