Sihatea Kombucha Quarters

If you want to experience Langkawi beyond the usual tourist path, this is a chance to really soak up the island and become part of its community.

When you arrive, you are a Sihatea Kombucha & Langkawi Ambassador. Your main focus is to explore, connect and create. You’ll visit our kombucha brewery once to learn about what we do, but there’s no regular brewery production work. Instead, you’ll have a quota of 5 bottles of Sihatea Kombucha a week to take with you while exploring the island — whether you’re heading to the beach, discovering a new spot, meeting people or going to an event. You’ll naturally introduce people to kombucha, take photos and videos and create authentic content from your experience that we can also use.

You’ll also have opportunities to get involved in the wider Langkawi community. Depending on what’s happening, this could mean joining Trash Hero for a beach cleanup, contributing to charity projects, participating in certain events, helping Sihatea Kombucha with tasks outside of the brewery, or contributing your skills in photography, video, design or content creation. Whatever it is, we’ll try to involve you in the real development of Langkawi. Also, attending my performances is a cool way to make friends and experience the Langkawi entertainment scene.

There are also some occasional practical things I may need an extra pair of hands with — carrying things, moving furniture, helping set something up, or other small odd jobs that come up from time to time. Nothing complicated, just being willing to lend a hand when needed.

You’ll be based in a cute little shared apartment in central Kuah Town, with a swimming pool, kitchen and a big supermarket nearby — everything you need is in the area. Couples can have priority for the master bedroom, while individual travellers stay in the four-bed dorm. I, the host, do not live in this apartment, it's only for this volunteer program.

There’s no fixed daily routine. We’re looking for sociable, curious and adventurous people who enjoy meeting others, discovering new places and bringing good energy. In return, you get a local base, connections, experiences and the opportunity to see a side of Langkawi that you might otherwise miss.

My name is Syed. I’m the founder of Sihatea Kombucha, a professional musician who performs at some of the cool spots around Langkawi, and a tour guide with a particular passion for the island’s natural history, wildlife and hidden corners.

I live a pretty chill and quiet life here in Langkawi. I enjoy the slower pace of island life, but I also really appreciate good company, meeting interesting people, sharing stories and having people from different parts of the world around.

I’ve spent a lot of time getting to know Langkawi and the people who make it interesting — local businesses, musicians, creatives, travellers and different communities around the island. I enjoy making connections and introducing people to each other, so you’ll hopefully find it quite easy to get involved and meet people while you’re here. I'm more than happy to share with you the secret insider spots that only some lcoal residents know, hidden beaches and waterfalls, the best time to go. All curated if you ask the right questions.

We’re a small and informal setup. I prefer a relaxed atmosphere where everyone can communicate openly, have a laugh, respect each other, keep relations platonic and professional, and enjoy being around one another. Some seasons, I might be too busy that you wont see me as often but I trust that you'll keep things in check.

I’m pretty easy-going and I’ll give you space to do your own thing, but I also appreciate people who are communicative, considerate and bring positive energy into the house and the community around them.

Basically, come as you are. Be respectful, be open-minded, be sociable, and enjoy the experience. I want people staying with us to feel comfortable enough to make Langkawi their home for a while, while also becoming part of the little network of people and places that makes the island special.

The experience was good and gave us a great opportunity to explore the island by scooter. The accommodation provided was comfortable, clean, and convenient. Our main task was to take photos and videos of the home while exploring the island. This was not mentioned in the description, but it wasn't an issue for me. I also had the opportunity to learn how the home is made, which was a valuable part of the experience. I believe communication could be improved. Thank you for this opportunity. I recommend it.

The apartment was exclusively for us volunteers, and we were very comfortable there. I was hoping to work more and learn more about the home-making process, but unfortunately, it was the low season. This meant we had a lot of free time, which allowed us to explore the island almost every day.

My experience was unfortunate and made me feel unsafe and vulnerable. I was not involved in the conflict between other volunteers, but the host involved me without asking what had happened or hearing my side. He arrived with several men who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol; they aggressively removed a volunteer from the house and behaved intimidatingly toward me, including sexist comments and taking photos of me without my consent. The house was comfortable, but I could not assess the work because I arrived on a weekend with no factory activities. For my safety, I decided to leave

Laurine was kind, professional and respectful till she left, and after, we only met with sayed and tbh he was, too, until some situation occurred, I'm still grateful for somethings he did, and he offered us his bike, but for me extending to a female volunteer the privilege of using the bike and suggesting that she stay in the room with one bed and me and another male stay in the dorm room after he said he wanted to separate genders, he asked me why I'm offering all that to a woman and disrespected us and said a lot of bad things to both of us, he was rude and we parted ways with a conflict
