Volunteering at The Yak was an amazing and meaningful experience. I learned a lot, improved my English by speaking with travelers every day, enjoyed several sailing tours, and swam in the beautiful Bacalar lagoon every day.
Javi and Joselyn, the Activities Team Leaders, are amazing people, and the bond between volunteers and staff makes the experience even more special. I made great friends, created unforgettable memories, and grew a lot as a person. The Yak definitely left a mark on my life!

It was my first volunteering experience and also my first trip as a woman. At all times I felt safe in the Jak facilities, so I definitely recommend Bacalar for solo travel. I made many friends from different places around the world and I managed to overcome my fear of speaking English, so if you want to practice, it's the ideal place for you. In addition, you have mornings free to explore. A hug to Joss and Javi who at all times knew how to lead the volunteers and support them. Likewise the Jak staff makes you feel part of the hostel. From the very first moment I felt welcomed; all of the staff are excellent people. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the place itself is beautiful, surrounded by the tranquility of the lagoon and the positive energy of everyone you meet there.
Each day in Bacalar was incredible, the activities were not at all heavy and they were enjoyable.
Without a doubt, I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a meaningful volunteering experience full of good moments.

One of the best experiences of my life! Bacalar is beautiful, and I met amazing people from all over the world. Joss and Javi were always kind and supportive. The activities are fun and tourist-oriented, so a good level of English is helpful. The food and accommodation were good, and there is always something to do at night. I would definitely volunteer here again :)
