Wild Ginger Hotel

As a small, family owned business, we provide volunteers with a warm Hawaiian, laid back atmosphere. We are currently looking for people who want to experience the aloha spirit of the islands while volunteering at our hostel; we would love to welcome you to our ‘ohana (family).

In exchange for a commitment of four (4) weeks of housekeeping, our volunteers receive a top bunk in either a male-only or female-only dorm. Along with guests, volunteers are also invited to enjoy a free Hawaiian style continental breakfast each morning. Meat lunches are provided to our volunteers on the days that they work (vegetarian/special meals are not guaranteed). Free wifi is accessible in the lobby for guests and staff to use at anytime.

Unfortunately i have had a bad experience this time around. The hosts sold the hostel and the new owners kicked everyone out in 7 days. I had nowhere to go and worldpackers only covered 49$ which doesn't even pay for a night at a hostel. I was very disappointed with the way things were handled and for the lack of prior notice.

Had a wonderful time at the hostel Inn! Great people, nice job tasks and always a super lunch after work. Fantastic people, super friendly and easy to talk to. I cut my foot during my stay at the hostel Inn, and everybody was really helpful driving me to the hospital and helping. Thank you for a good time!

If you're looking for a relaxed environment and to explore Hilo, the hostel is your place! The housekeeping work is straightforward and side tasks are shared between all work-traders. You're allowed to listen to music while you work which makes the work day fly by. At the end of your shift you get a delicious meal, Al is a GREAT cook. Meals ranged from soups, burgers, curries, shrimp pasta, and the list goes on! Never the same meal twice. They even accommodated my dietary restrictions. I had a blast getting to know the staff and going out to events together. I will cherish these memories!

Amazing people and a beautiful Hostel that overlooks the Ocean. The work is straight forward and I would highly recommend the hostel Inn to all work traders. Perfect opportunity to get out and explore this beautiful island.
