The Experience

Indigofera tintoria is a natural dye plant that produces a deep blue color and has been used since ancient times, 6,000 years ago by the Egyptian Pharaohs. Plant Indigofera tintoria is one way to reduce textile waste in the batik dyeing technique. This plant is also an important dye in traditional ikat weaving and batik in the archipelago. In Desa Serang Blitar, the Indigofera tintoria plant is an endemic plant that must be protected.

I had such a wonderful time volunteering with Dita! She is an incredibly kind, welcoming, the communitythoughtful host who made me feel at home from the very beginning. I especially loved how much she shared about Indonesian culture, traditions, the communityeveryday life. We spent our days planting trees, cooking together, getting creative, the communitylearning from each other. Every day felt a little different, which made the experience even more special. Dita is also super understanding the communityflexible when it comes to schedules, giving everyone the freedom to enjoy their time at their own pace. I'm so grateful.
